I was suddenly forced awake after a short sleep. Everything was blurry when I came too, but remembered everything when I heard shots firing still. Newt was killed by Rosalee - on accident, that is. Ava was shot by Janson, and I was in the medical room. That wasn't the only thing I noticed. Teresa was sitting beside me, draining a vile of my blood with a syringe. For the first time, I felt relaxed because she was here with me. She made me feel safe. That is, until I heard a cruel voice speak.

"Do you know what this place is, Thomas?" The voice was speaking behind me, so I turned to find Janson staring out the window, lost in thought. "It's a lifeboat. The whole world might be sinking, but it doesn't mean that we have to go down with it."

He turned, glaring down at me. I finally glanced over myself to find that I was strapped down to a gurney. I tried freeing myself by jerking my body, but it was useless.

"How much longer?"

"It's almost done," Teresa replied, not looking at him once.

While she continued working, Janson stared at me; my heart thudding so hard in my chest I thought it was going to explode. I glared back at him, showing no fear on the outside.

"Why don't you just kill me?" I asked.

"Kill you? No, we don't wanna do that." He walked closer until he was hovering over me, smiling evilly. "We're gonna take special care of you. We'll keep you alive."

I knew his words were fake. Rage had risen inside of me already, giving me my bravery back. I tried lunging myself at him, even if I was still strapped down. Janson flinched, but that was about it. There was nothing I could do. Rat Man continued talking, the sneer growing bigger.

"In return, you will give life to the rest of us. The ones we choose to save, anyway."

He grabbed something off the medical table and turned it on.

"Of course, there's not going to be enough for everyone. Hard choices are going to have to be made. In time, the Flare virus will burn itself out. The only question is, who will be the ones left standing?"
