You fall asleep thinking of memories from back when you and N were kids.
One time, N came into your room, though it was only a little windy outside. You could tell N came there just to be with you.
"Are you okay?" you had asked.
He had simply shaken his head.
You comforted him by holding his hand and humming with him.
After a few peaceful minutes, some of the Sages were running up and down the halls, calling N's name. They started opening doors and asking the people inside if they had seen him.
N squeezed your hand to get your attention. "Hey, let me hide under your blankets."
He scrambled under the covers just as Zinzolin opened the door. That was probably the closest you two had ever been until now.
Zinzolin looked around the room, scoffed, and closed the door.
You remember looking down and seeing N quietly laughing at the fact his idea had worked.
Even though Zinzolin was gone, N stayed under your covers, occasionally snuggling up to you.
"Hah... You're warm, Y/N," he had said.
Your face heated up even more at that, but you hugged him back regardless.
To both of your dismay, N had to leave. The Sages had given up searching the hallways, so N had a perfect opportunity to get back to his room.
"Bye-bye Y/N. I'll see you soon like I always do." Then he kissed your forehead like always and slipped back out of your room.
You had always looked back at that memory with fondness, well, until you forgot all of it.
How did you even forget in the first place?
You have to think really hard about this. Your memory is still fuzzy but you think...it was Ghetsis!
The morning after N had given you Purrloin, you were called to Ghetsis' office. He had taken Purrloin away before you could even get to meet her. You were very upset, but you were rushed to Colress' lab.
Ghetsis must have made you forget everything about N. Then N was taken away to begin his rule over Team Plasma, so you two never saw each other again.
After that, once you had started to show signs of having doubt in Team Plasma, Ghetsis gave Purrloin back to you, playing it off like she was a gift from him.
That would explain why Colress wanted you to look for N and bring him back. It also explains why he didn't seem to want you to look at pictures of N for too long, in case something were to jog your memory.
But now you know everything. The truth. Does that mean you'll give up on trying to bring him back to Team Plasma?
Honestly, you've been second-guessing whether or not to complete the mission Colress gave you. Now you really understand how badly N doesn't want to go back.
You know what the right thing to do is.
(N POV)
I can't seem to fall asleep, so I end up quietly chatting with Zoroark.
He's the one who started the conversation, though he occasionally looks around to make sure nobody is near.
"Well somebody's sure changed their mind," he says, grinning at me. "So when's the wedding?"
I shush him. "Hey! It's nothing like that!"
He mocks me. "Oh It'S nOtHiNg LiKe ThAt!" He snickers. "Seriously though, you look like you've just seen a box of baby Lilipup. Though, a box of Zorua would be cuter..."
"Do I?" I look down at the sleeping Y/N, and I can't help but still see traces of the young child I had been friends with all those years ago.
"Member' when you were a kid? Every night when you'd come back from their room you'd be all 'I love Y/N so muuuuch! I want to be with them foreverrrrr!'"
I want to run over to him and clamp a hand over his snout, but doing so would most likely wake Y/N.
His teasing wakes Liepard, who gets up and stretches with a yawn.
"Are you feeling better?" I ask her.
She nods, and comes over to briefly lick my hand. "Do they remember you now? It's been so sad seeing Y/N go about their life without even recalling you."
"They do. I'm really happy."
"Aha!" Zoroark says. He would be shooting me finger-guns if he had fingers.
Liepard looks at Y/N and nudges their hand, earning a subconscious pat.
Ever since I escaped Team Plasma with Zekrom's help, I hadn't really thought about anyone from Team Plasma, wanting to purge the memories. Sometimes I would remember Y/N as I fell asleep. I'd wonder what they were doing, if they had managed to escape too, or if they were still trapped there.
I would especially think about them during storms.
I look down at Y/N again. "Do you think they're still afraid of storms?"
Zoroark scoffs. "Who knows."
"I wouldn't say they're afraid of them," Liepard tells us. "But they certainly don't like them."
Y/N stirs a little, like they can sense the three of us are talking about them.
"You should get some sleep," Zoroark tells me as Liepard goes back to his side to curl up.
I hold back a yawn. "You're probably right, but there's one thing I wanted to talk to you about first."
He tilts his head to the side.
I pull out the Dark Stone, the stone which can awaken into Zekrom. "We know where the other one is, and it's for the Hero of Truth." I look down at Y/N for probably the millionth time that night. "Do you think they're the one?"
"Are you just saying that because you like them? I'm not joking, for once. You should really think about that."
"I know, and I have. They've always had the truth handed right to them without question. They seem like someone who would go to seek the truth they believe in. Plus, weren't they looking for the Light Stone as well?"
"Hey. Remember how they wanted that stone for Team Plasma?"
"Don't you trust them?"
"I trust 'em just fine. Just don't go handing out the secrets to the Light Stone 'cuz they're your kindergarten crush."
I let out a quiet laugh at that. "I won't. I'll try to reach Zekrom in my sleep and ask what he thinks."
He scoffs and nods. "Goodnight, little King."
He hasn't called me by that nickname since I was a kid.
