Chapter 7. A new start Part 2

Start from the beginning

I busied myself with work after having a chat with Briac. I was surprised when I discovered that the wife of Alec Vincent had created the wine. I finally understood why the section chief was in charge of handling matters regarding the wine. The company probably didn't want to tarnish the woman's name by telling people that she had created something that didn't sell well. The Vincent wine brewery got handed down from generation to generation. The first owners worked hard to keep the brewery afloat. I could understand Alec Vincent's concerns. The company was going to suffer a loss if the wine failed to meet their expectations. I was going to work hard to make the wine successful. I just needed to find out what Wren Vincent's purpose was for concocting such a wine. I could get in trouble if I approached her of my own accord. I needed permission from my section chief to avoid problems.

I sighed while thinking that I would have to wait to pursue Mrs. Vincent. I got startled when Briac suddenly groaned loudly. I wanted to ignore my cubicle mate, but Briac then started to tap his fingers on his desk like a lunatic. I rolled my chair to his side, then asked him, "Is everything alright, Briac?" Briac shook his head while running his fingers through his hair in frustration. It got worried about him when I heard him say, "I have been working on this project for a month now. The section chief has already rejected two sale pitches of mine. I have a feeling that he will reject this one too. The problem is that I can't come up with something fresh." I stood up, then dragged my chair to Briac's side. Briac looked in shock at me when I took a seat next to him. "I didn't tell you about my troubles because I wanted you to help me, Zach. You can go back now. I'll manage this project by myself. Don't forget that you also have a tough case to handle," uttered Briac while panicking.

I chuckled when I saw Briac looking in concern at me. I grabbed one of the files that were lying on Briac's desk. Briac tried to get it away from me, but I was faster than him. I smiled at Briac, then uttered, "I have already completed my research, Briac. The president of the company was kind enough to give me only one project to conduct for the time being. I need permission from the section chief to take the next step in my investigation. I'm sure that you already know that he's not here, so I'm free at the moment. Come one, let's go through the data together." Briac hesitated for a bit, then nodded at me. Briac's current project was about men's cologne. It seemed like the company that had produced the cologne had failed to launch it successfully. They were now seeking professional help. Briac had created an online survey to attract people. He received a lot of responses, but they were mostly from women.

It wasn't surprising because most men didn't like to participate in surveys. I put my hand on Briac shoulder, then uttered, "Hire a few average-looking men and some gorgeous looking women. Make them promote the men's cologne as couples in busy streets, markets, malls, and parks. Create a fake account and post their pictures on social media. Don't forget to include LGBTQ+ couples. Make sure that the cologne is recognizable in all pictures. I'm positive that the sales will spike within a few days." It was already lunchtime, so I grabbed my chair then went back to my desk. I took a sandwich out of my bag, then started eating it. Briac peeked suddenly at me, then asked me, "Are you only going to eat that, Zach?" I looked at my delicious sandwich, then responded to Briac with, "Yes, why?" Briac groaned then replied to me with, "Let's eat lunch together, Zach. There is a great place not far from the headquarters. We can walk there if you like."

I quickly put my sandwich away when I noticed that Briac wasn't going to take "No" for an answer. I followed Briac to the elevator then went to the ground floor with him. Briac was busy texting someone during the whole ride. He put his phone away suddenly, then uttered, "Follow me." I waved Emma goodbye, then followed Briac. Briac tried to find out where I lived and what my hobbies were during our walk to the restaurant. I kept changing the subject each time Briac asked me a personal question. Briac stopped questioning me after a while, then started talking about current affairs. "We have arrived," uttered Briac when we reached the restaurant. I didn't want to go in when I saw how packed it already was with people in suits. Briac grabbed the sleeve of my suit jacket, then said, "I have already reserved a table for us, Zach. Let's go in."
