I cling to the front of Nathan's jacket, gathering a chunk of leather in my hands to keep hold as the wind pushes against me.
"Faster, Nathan!" I yell into his ear. I look behind us at the bright lights flashing that are inching closer. Panic rises in my chest and my throat tightens as I look back ahead.
I can't see Nathan's face through his helmet but I can feel his anxiety on top of my own. He tightens his grip on the handle and acceleration, making the bike zoom faster ahead.
The road is empty besides us and the cars chasing behind us. The moon is hidden in the clouds, making the only light on the road the flashing lights from behind us.
"I can't lose them," I hear Nathan's muffled voice shout over the wind. I look quickly behind us for a second again. They are only a few feet behind us now.
"You have to!" I yell back.
He shakes his head, making his helmet hit my own. The bang makes me lean back slightly and I feel my grip loosen on his jacket. I slide back a little on the small seat and I panic, scrambling for a better hold of him.
My left hand falls off of him as my ass reaches the back of the bike. My foot slips off the left foot stool, making my leg lift up as I lose my balance and my body veers right.
"Fuck!" I scream, pulling at the back of his jacket but unable to get a firm enough grip to pull myself back to him. I try to grab the side of the bike but it's too hot to touch for more than a second.
"Help!" I try to get Nathan's attention as I slip more onto the right side of the bike. The bike starts to lean right as well, as my body weight pulls it down.
Nathan reaches back and I hold out my hand, my fingers inches from his. He looks back and forth between me and the road ahead, clearly alarmed but trying to keep the bike driving straight.
"Emily!" His panicked voice rings in my ears.
I reach as far as I can, trying to get ahold of his hand. My fingertips brush over his, giving me a little hope, and I try as hard as I can to extend my arm further but my fingers won't reach his hand again.
The bike leans right again as the lights behind us get closer than ever, the bumper of the car chasing us inches from my face now.
My breath stops in my throat.
I screw my eyes shut, unable to watch what I know is inevitably about to happen. All my body can think to do now is scream hysterically as the bike falls over, crashing hard on top of me.
Then everything goes black.
---
I shoot up in the bed with wide eyes, panting and looking around my room frantically. Nathan rolls onto his back, his arm detaching from me as I sit up.
It was just a nightmare... just a nightmare... breathe...
But it felt so real... I felt myself hit the pavement before it all went dark.
Nathan rubs his eyes and sits up too, staring at me with alarmed eyes.
"What's wrong? What happened?" He asks me, placing his palms against my cheeks to steady me as I rock back and forth. I can't catch my breath, my chest rises and falls quickly with my rapid heart rate.
I stare into his concerned hazel eyes and try to calm my breathing.
"Nightmare," is all I can get out.
He gives me a small smile. "You're okay. It wasn't real." He reassures me as he smooths my hair out of my face.
I nod and wrap my arms around his neck, getting as close to his warm comforting body as I can. I take deep breaths into his hair, nuzzling my nose into his neck as my breathing finally slows.
His large arms snakes around my waist, pulling me on top of him as he lays back down with my head now against his chest.
I focus on his heart beating against my ear, forcing the memory of the frightening dream to fade into the back of my mind. I feel safe in his arms. Protected.
I look up, my eyes going directly to his lips. The corners of his mouth turn up as he tightens his grip on my waist.
I brush my right hand up his torso teasingly as I sit up slightly to lean up to his face. I kiss him softly, gently, as a thank you.
I lean back slightly to go to rest my head back on his chest, but his hand moves up behind my neck, keeping me in place. I stare silently into his eyes, waiting for his next move that I know I want so desperately.
"I'll make you forget," He whispers into the air between us before crashing his lips against mine.
