Lucas' POV
I scooted awkwardly out of the car with Rose wrapped tightly around me. As soon as I started walking towards mum and dad, Rose broke free and began running across the road.
Thankfully there were no cars. My parents stood smiling as Rose sat across from a beautiful girl sitting alone on her veranda.
She was stunning, smiling at Rose as if she'd never been spoken to before. The girl had long black hair with natural looking waves, bright blue eyes that told a sad story and pale skin.
Suddenly she glanced up at me, she noticed I was looking at her, and straight back down at Rose, smiling wider.
Rose stood up and grabbed the girl's hand. Dragging her over to me, Rose giggled, "This is Maisie."
Rose hugged Maisie and squeezed as hard as she could. Suddenly Maisie's front door blew open and an angry woman began screaming "Maisie! What the hell?!"
Maisie's smiled dropped and she peeled Rose off her. "See ya." She forced a small smile and walked swiftly to her mother.
Maisie followed who I assumed was her mother inside, turning around once to look at Rose. Rose smiled brightly and waved.
Rose was six years old but she wasn't stupid, she knew Maisie was in trouble. She didn't know why but she knew something was up.
As Maisie disappeared inside, Rose looked up at me, large blue eyes gleaming with love as she looked at me.
"Why is Maisie in trouble?" Rose asked casually as if I knew the answer to every question she wanted answered.
"You know as much as I do Rosie." I looked down at her and picked her up, walking over to our parents.
The whole time they'd been standing there pretending they weren't listening. "Who was that Rose?" Mum smiled innocently.
"That was Maisie, she lives across the road. She's pretty." Rose answered, giggles erupting out of her shyly as she said 'pretty'.
I wouldn't admit it to my parents but I agreed with Rosie.
Maisie was pretty.
