It had been five years since the incident with Lord Shen of Gonmen City. Master Shai Lung had stayed behind to help him and the remaining Masters of Gonmen - Master Ox and Master Croc - both rebuild the grand city, and train new Kung Fu warriors.
Shai had only just returned to the Jade Palace two years ago. The pain in her chest would flare up at random. But through all this, she had found her inner peace...
Or so she thought...
-----
Shai Lung hung her legs over the Peachtree branch. The ends of her long, jade green silk robe tucked between the branch and her legs. She wore black pants underneath. Her eyes were closed, deep in meditation.
Shai's ear flicked. The sound of banging, crashing and laughing echoed from the Hall of Heroes. She sighed.
Her eyes opened to reveal their red-yellow colour. She flipped from her upside-down position, landing gracefully on her feet.
Pain stabbed through her chest, almost bringing the Snow Leopard to her knees. Her paw flew up to clutch her heart. Wincing, she squeezed her eyes shut. Her ears went flat against her furry head.
"Are you okay, Shai," Master Shifu asked from behind her.
The pain began subsiding. She turned to face her concerned Master, smiling warmly. Her arm returned to rest at her side.
"Yes, Master," she said, "I'll be fine."
Shai walked toward the Hall. Shifu hesitated, but hurried after her.
Shifu looked up at her, worry sparkling in his brown eyes. "It's getting worse, isn't it?"
"Yes," Shai sighed. She briefly glanced down to Shifu, smiling warmly. "Don't stress yourself, Shifu," she said, "We have other things to worry about."
Shifu's mask of concern turned into one of confusion. "What do you mean?"
"The pain comes from deep in the Spirit Realm. When it starts, I can feel something taking the Chi of the former Kung Fu Masters. Once the pain stops, their gone," Shai explained solemnly. She looked down at him, tears welling up in her eyes, "The one who was just taken was... Tai Lung."
Shifu stopped in his tracks, eyes wide in shock and fear. Shai continued towards the Hall. Shifu ran to catch up to her.
"Who is left," he asked quickly.
Shai sighed, "Only Master Oogway and the Chi Drainer remain, now."
Shifu began getting frantic with stress.
"Do you know who this Chi Drainer is?"
Shai shook her head, "Unfortunately, I do not. However, I do believe he will soon escape the Spirit Realm and return to the Mortal Realm. There is a great darkness within him, Master. One greater than Shen's and Tai's - greater than I have ever felt before."
"And if he comes back, you will try to save his soul?"
"Precisely, Master," she replied confidently, "I took an oath to save those others deem unworthy, and I plan to honor that oath as long as I live."
"Why haven't you told me any of this before," Shifu asked.
"Because you never asked," Shai replied simply, "Don't tell the Five or Dragon Warrior. We'll tell them when the time is right."
Shifu nodded as the two strode into the Hall of Heroes.
The Furious Five - Monkey, Viper, Mantis, Tigress and Crane - stood there, not looking very impressed. Shai and Shifu walked to be in the middle of them.
Tigress wore a similar styled robe to Shai, it's colours yellow and dark brown instead of jade green and deep purple.
There was a loud crash followed by even louder laughter. Two forms ran passed them - one was unmistakably the Dragon Warrior, who wore Master Dolphin's water proof armour. The other had Master Flying Rhino's armour. Shai rose a brow in confusion.
Po stopped in front of the group. His once playful manner was consumed by a slight embarrassment.
The other one playfully charged at him. He nudged him with his head, mumbling "I'm gonna get you!" over and over.
Po gently hit him while still staring at them. "Pst! Master Rhino," he whispered, though the others could still hear.
The one in the Rhino armour slowly began to straighten. Once he saw the Palace's Masters, he snapped to his full height, throwing something over his shoulder. It smashed into the Ern of Whispering Warriors, breaking it... once again.
The pain slowly crept up again. She never showed any signs of being in pain; but inwardly, she was fighting the urge to scream and rip out her heart for this to end. Once it had stopped, no one was left in the Spirit Realm.
"Guys! You'll never guess who just showed up, not in a million years," Po stated.
The one in Master Rhino's armour lifted the helm to reveal...
"Your father," all but Shai exclaimed - she just smiled brightly.
Shai could feel the Chi Drainer's hooves touch the ground of the Mortal Realm. She could feel his immense size. She could almost see his great muscular form. It sent shivers up her spine, raising the fur along it.
"Master Shai," Tigress began, "Is everything okay?"
Suddenly, the bell in the village sounded. It was only ever used if the village was under attack.
Shai looked down at Shifu, "He has come."
