No Longer A Game

Everyone scattered, leaving me and my mini crewmate Marshmallow stood in cafeteria.

Well... the closest task was in admin, swiping a card, however most of the people had gone there and formed a queue by the machine, so I headed to the reactor instead, to unlock manifolds.

I raced towards the door leading past medbay, however the doors abruptly slid shut, locking me inside. And I almost ran straight into it.

And it took about five minutes to open again, then I proceeded on my way. As I stepped into reactor, however, I noticed someone else who was already in there. Someone in a maroon spacesuit.

They were stood in front of the keypad used to start the reactor. There definitely was no maroon earlier...

"Hi" I say, before remembering that we couldn't talk. Instead, I reach out and tap the person on the back, and they quickly spin around in surprise. They looked down at my mini crewmate as I waved, wondering what to do next.

The new crew member, seemingly forgetting about the task, walks out of the room and into security, sitting down in the office chair and watching the cameras. I saw HackerGod go into medbay, Mantis, Berry and Matt racing through a hallway like their lives depended on it, then Kitty and Flippy on a different screen.

Huh... where was Red?

Oh, yes - back to this new crewmate. I guess I should let the others know that we had one extra player, however they don't seem to be moving from the chair.

I lightly grab the person's arm and indicate to the door, before leading them back to the cafeteria, and pressing the big red buzzer in the middle of the table in the centre of the large room. Soon enough, the blue light began flashing and people slowly filtered into cafeteria. Nobody had died yet.
And now I only had two emergency meetings left.

Once everyone was seated around the table, the mics in our helmets turned on.

"C'mon Lucky! You're not that noob who calls meetings for no reason, are you?" Matt whines.

"Actually, no" I declare, and point to Maroon, who was sat silently next to me. "New crewmate"

"Or imposter" HackerGod corrects. "But either way, where did you come from?"

The new player finally talks. "I'm Nora..."

"Welcome to the crew, Nora" Kitty says, "and why weren't you here with us at the start?"

Nora shrugs. "I got here late"

"But they told us there were only going to be eight players" Flippy quietly points out.

"Sus..." Red murmurs.

"Never mind" Mantis beams, "let's just get back to playing!"

"Okay" Berry agrees, nodding.

"So skip?" Flippy asks

"Yes" I confirm, pressing the skip button on my own tablet.

Nobody was ejected (skipped)

Once again, we scattered about the ship for our tasks. I had download in electrical... almost everyone always says that electrical is the most dangerous room, however I didn't mind it that much. Reactor, on the other hand... that's where I died most of the time. Closely followed by medbay, but I liked medbay because there was a visual task in there. Talking of visuals, I had the asteroids task and trash as well.

For quite a while, I paused to figure out how exactly you start the download. Finally, I try pressing my tablet up against the wall with the 'download' icon, and the extremely familiar animation played across my tablet.

Now, download was my least favourite task. And as if it wasn't bad already, it took soooo long in this game, because all the times had been increased. My arms ached a bit and I moved them slightly, which cancelled the whole download. Ugh.

About half an hour of tasking later found me in admin with Red. She was downloading, and I had just come in to swipe my card. I still couldn't shake the feeling that she was familiar... and now that I thought about it more, I could have sworn I also faintly recognised the others as well...

I did the card task in one effortless swipe. Satisfied, I made my way around the table to leave the room, when all of a sudden, the red lights flashed and a deafening alarm filled the room.

The oxygen had been sabotaged.
