"...kid.....got you. I got you kid, it's ok." I can finally hear again. My breathing is ragged and my body was weak but I was slowly gaining awareness once again. I breathe out a shaky sigh.
"I'm- I'm ok now." My voice was hoarse and tougher than usual. I quickly clear my throat and wipe my eyes. The river of tears I hadn't even known I shed disappearing from my cheeks. Eda pulls me into a hug, surprisingly, and rubs my back gently.
"I'm sorry for scaring you kid." She gives me one more squeeze before kneeling in front of me again.
"I honestly wasn't expecting you to react like that." I give her a small nod and hug her again before looking over at Bump.
"Edalyn..."
"Oh right...You're here.." Eda suddenly seemed a lot more distainful than before. Probably because she realized that we were in a school.
"It seems there are some things we need to discuss." Eda heaves a heavy sigh and looks at me, gently placing her hands on my shoulders.
"You're sure you want to do this? There's no going back if you do." I look her in the eye and nod my head. My determination surprised her but she reluctantly gave in.
"Alright then." She reaches under my hood and ruffles my hair.
"I'll have one of my best students show you around while everything gets sorted." A knock sounds at the door as Bump finishes.
"You called for me sir?" An almost uninterested voice rang as the door opened, revealing a familiar green haired girl.
"Ah, Amity, right on time. I would like for you to show around Miss-"
"Clawthorn. Luz Clawthorn." Eda gives me a look but doesn't question it. Probably going to get interrogated about it later though. Amity nods and starts to lead me out until Bump stops us.
"Miss Clawthorn. Your mask needs to come off, its school policy." I could feel the blood drain from my face until I noticed Eda discreetly casting an illusions spell. I could feel it surround my ears and my fears diminish slightly.
"......Right...." I reach up and slowly pull my mask off and give it to Eda. I couldn't bring my head up. I was terrified. Something about the mask had given me this comfort and if I look up now, all that comfort is going to vanish. Eda ruffles my hair in a comforting manner and I smile a little bit. She gives me one in return and I follow Amity through the halls of hexside. She shows me everywhere that students are allowed to go.
"That should be everything." She turns around and crosses her arms. "Any questions?"
"No-"
"Mittens!" A familiar voice rings out before I'm able to finish my sentence. Edric and Emira walk up to us as Amity looks as though she's about to murder them.
"There you are-"
"Who's your friend Mittens?" Ed cut off Em, who shot him a glare that spit fire, and shot a suggestive look at Amity, who shot him a glare that promised pain.
"1. We're not friends. 2. This is Luz, a new student. And 3. Don't Call Me Mittens." Her face was turning red at a rapid pace before Emira decided to make a move.
"Heya cutie, how about you hang out with us instead?" She sends me a wink that makes me blush involuntarily. I know what they're up to but I honestly didn't know how to respond. I wasn't as confident without the mask, I never really realized how much I rely on it.
"Umm..." I couldn't form a real sentence. It was like my brain was short circuiting.
"Say, you seem kinda familiar..." Ed got really close to my face very quickly causing me to squeak and back away from him only to bump into Amity.
"Knock it off you two! You're scaring her!" Amity was quick to my defense, which was strange to say the least. They both put their hands up and back up a bit.
"Jeez chill out mittens, we were just trying to make a new friend." Em said while leaning on Ed who nodded his head in agreement.
"Do that on your own time! Shouldn't you two be in class by now?" Amity gave them a challenging glare causing them to look at each other before giving off a nervous laughter.
"Would you look at the time.."
"We really should be going..." The two were quick to scurry off. I breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed.
"Thank you." I gave Amity a small smile causing her to blush slightly and look away.
"Don't get used to it. This was a one time thing." She crossed her arms and turned around. The action caused me to let out a small giggle.
"Understood. As a thank you though, do you want me to show you something cool?" This piqued her interest and she gave me a small nod. I looked around to make sure no one else was around and led her back to an empty classroom. Surprisingly, or not, it was the orical classroom. I grab a piece of chalk and do the lock before tapping it.
"My mom told me about this. She would always use it to pull pranks but it's also a pretty easy way to get around quickly." I told a confused Amity. I have a feeling this will come in handy but I don't know for what.
The door opened and I led Amity down the tunnel, noting the look of amazement on her face before making sure to close the door behind us. As we enter the main room the look of astonishment on Amity's face seems to grow.
"Woah..." I couldn't help but smirk at her reaction.
"Welcome to troublemaker paradise." This seemed to snap her out of the trance she was in.
"How did you know where to go?" Curiosity thick in her voice. I snickered slightly at this.
"I already told you silly! My mom told me." She gives a hum of understanding at this.
"This is amazing...was this always here?" I give a shrug. I honestly have no idea.
"Well, we should head back. I don't want you getting in trouble because of me." Her eyes seemed to widen as the final bell was heard and we both hurried back to the orical classroom, remembering to cover our tracks.
"Thank you, for showing me that. You honestly didn't have to." I give her a small bright smile.
"Think of it as an early birthday present. I should get going, have a nice day." She gave a small blush but when she went to question me I had already disappeared in the crowd of students passing by.
'That was way too close.'
