A/N: sorry it's late!!! I had some trouble writing this chapter and I had some work to do for class.
Amity's POV
It was almost unreal. This girl, the girl that's been haunting me since I first saw her, here offering a way to end my suffering. I almost expected her to disappear and the twins to start laughing at me. I knew it wasn't possible. You can't touch an illusion without it disintegrating. Here she was, her hands on my waist and shoulder, offering away to get my mother back. I almost can't believe it, it's way too good to be true.
"What's the catch?" There has to be one. There just has to be. All I get in return was a weird look. I could feel the hope shining in my eyes. If she could help my mom, I would get both of my parents back to how the twins said they were.
"There isn't one. Why would there be a catch?" My heart soared. Everything would change. She could save us.
"Never mind, what can I do to help?" The conviction in my voice startles even me but I don't let it show. Mother was looking our way and I knew better than to show emotions. Emotions make you vulnerable. Luz seemed to notice this and moved so that I was hidden from view letting me smile at her slightly before getting serious again.
"We need to get her and your dad alone and trap them somehow. She can't be able to move anything. We can't risk her casting spells or him trying to help her. Once that happens, I'll take it from there." Her voice was low and she had leaned close to my ear so no one could hear. I could feel the heat in my cheeks but chose to ignore it as much as possible. This birthday was turning out to be one of the best birthdays ever.
I nod at her as the song ends and we split. She took my hand and lightly kissed it before walking over to the twins and talking to them.
"Amity." My heart sank to my stomach as I heard the sternness in my mother's voice, wiping any and all color from my face.
"Yes mother?" My blank face apparently pleased her as she appraised my reaction.
"That girl. What do you know of her?" Her gaze landed on Luz who was off checking her strange devices. I looked back at my mother's expectant gaze as I remember her saying
"From what I know of her, she's quite powerful. But as far as her actual abilities, I am unsure. I've never seen her use her magic for anything but bard magic." My mother hums at this, displeased at the lack of information.
"She would make a great asset to the Blight family. Befriend the girl." She states before walking off to entertain the guests once more. That was one of the more less stressful conversations I've ever had with her. Usually they end with a disapproving glance and degrading remark. She must really be interested in Luz for her to say that.
"Hey Mittens!" Edric startles me from my thoughts earning a glare.
"Don't call me Mittens!" My immediate response enticed a smirk from both twins.
"We were just wondering how you liked our little surprise. From the blush on your face during your dance, I would say you enjoyed that immensely." Emira says as Edric holds his breath to mimic my blushing, causing my face to turn crimson as I push them away.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I cross my arms as they both start laughing at me.
"Guess you won't mind me going for her then, will you Mittens?" Emira raises her eyebrow as she leans against Edric.
"Don't even think about it. She's mine." My mouth speaks before my brain can catch up. Once I realize what I said, my face goes as red as apple blood. They both laugh at me before ruffling my hair.
"Don't worry Mittens, your secret is safe with us." Edric says before the walk away. I huff and start walking towards the snack table, hoping my face would cool down by the time I got there. I got a drink and leaned on the wall for a little bit, just watching everyone else mingle, when Boscha walked up to me.
"Hey Blight." She takes her scroll and does a quick selfie with me before leaning next to me.
"What do you want, Boscha?" I was annoyed as it was without her making it worse.
"Just wanted to know how you know her?" She nods her head in Luz's direction.
"I don't." Is all I'm able to say before looking towards the direction she nodded to see Luz walking straight towards me with a small smirk on her face. Normally something like that would infuriate me, but for some reason, this time it didn't.
"Well, it sure looks like she knows you." I could hear the smirk in her voice before she got dragged away by skara, who was apparently nearby. I wasn't able to tear my gaze from her as she got closer. Her eyes seemed brighter than before, almost a bright ruby color if they weren't tinted with a jasper orange. I don't know what captivated me more, the way her eyes shone in the light of the room or the confidence she had as she walked. Not once had I seen her glance anywhere, only having her eyes set on me as she approached, almost like a slitherbeast approaching its prey. Her strange choice in clothing not bothering any of the other guests but always seeming to send my heart a flutter even more than usual. She was wearing a dark purple tux with black accents and black undershirt. Her hair had been ruffled to one side, messy but tastefully so. The part that wasn't able to be moved was pinned back with a dark purple amethyst clip in the shape of a constellation. I didn't know which one but it seemed to suit her well. Silver cufflinks adorned near her wrist with no tie to be seen. Her mask was that of another owl, a snowy white one with black accents that contrasted beautifully against her dark color scheme. I hadn't realized she was right in front of me until a throat clearing had snapped me out of my daze.
"Shouldn't you be enjoying the party?" Is the first thing she says as she glances to the side, seemingly looking for something. I just shrug and sip at my drink, acting as though she hadn't just caught me eyeing her.
"Not wanting to talk much anymore huh? Guess I could just go find the twins-"
"NO" My mouth moved before I was able to compute what she said. The blush I had so carefully hidden, darkening my cheeks once more.
"I-I mean no. It's fine, I could use the company anyway." My attempt to save myself from embarrassment was rendered completely futile with the teasing smirk working its way onto her face. I look away once more trying to regain my cool facade before someone else notices, earning a chuckle from the witch beside me.
"You could have just said so in the first place, ya know." She giggles as she talks. Her laugh is so cute- NO, I can't think about that right now.
"Have you figured out how you're going to do it yet?" I had finally spoken after a long awkward pause.
"Hm? OH right....that.....I talked to the twins earlier actually. We came up with one, but it's risky. I'm not even completely sure I'll be able to rid her of it completely to be honest." She sounds anxious, almost scared really. Of what, is the question on my mind.
"Are you planning to tell me or just hint at it all evening?" My irritation and impatience making its appearance rather quickly. If she expects me to help, I can't stay out of the loop. She takes a deep breath, seeming to steal her nerves, before she speaks.
"We need to knock her out."
