A/N sorry it's so late, had some trouble and couldn't write yesterday
Amity's POV
Everything used to be normal.
Until the day she showed up.
I was ordered by Mother to go shopping with the twins. I was quite content doing as told. At least this way I might be able to lose them and get some peace and quiet. Unfortunately that didn't happen. My birthday was in a couple of days, meaning they would be extra annoying. I was about to start yelling at them to leave me alone when we heard something. I felt oddly drawn towards it, like something was pulling me there. The twins were quiet as well, it seems to have piqued their interest too. We followed the noise, or in my case the pull, and arrived at this messy little stand.
There was a girl there. Or, at least I think it was a girl. She was playing something I hadn't seen before and had this strange Owl mask on her face. I hadn't realized I was staring until she looked directly at me. Her caramel eyes lit up as she saw me, apparently recognizing me from somewhere. I had apparently blushed while she was singing because the twins saw this and promptly teased me for it. I wanted to leave, but it was like I was rooted to where I was standing. I couldn't move, I could barely even think. There was something about her that drew me in....and I don't think I wanted it to stop.
A few days later, there she was again. She was here. At my school. In my classroom. With the girl who used to be my best friend. I don't interact with Willow much anymore, if at all. I'm not allowed to. If I do, she could get hurt and I don't want that. She doesn't deserve that.
The girl was still in her mask, except this time she seemed different. Like there was something more to her now than there was before. I just.....I couldn't put my finger on it. There was this....aura of power just.....radiating from her. It was honestly terrifying but....I wasn't scared of her.
She did this test thing with Willow and now she was in the plant track. I was supposed to show her around, apparently she was going to be a student here. I was a little surprised. She seemed to have this air of knowledge about her so I thought she had a tutor or something instead, but I guess I was wrong. She seemed so different when we were in the office. She didn't want to take off her mask, but I guess her mom or whoever that was, convinced her to take it off.
I felt like the air was knocked out of me. She looked so.....wow. There is no other way to describe her. Her skin had this sunshine glow to it, her eyes sparkled like molten gold mixed with silver under a torch light. Her hair had this windswept look to it but it suited her perfectly. She acted differently without her mask too. With her mask she was confident, but not cocky, and seemed so sure of every action she did. At least from what I gathered. Without it she was like a bundle of nerves. Constantly fidgeting with her hands and shuffling on her feet. I hate to admit it, but I just wanted to hug her and never let go. She was so cute.
I shouldn't feel like this. I shouldn't be drawn to her! We met just two days ago but I can't stop thinking about her. It's like she invaded my head and refuses to leave. And the stranger thing, I don't want her to.
If mother and father found out they would be furious. I shouldn't be like this. I should just~
My concentration was taken by the slight pain in my arm. I looked down in confusion before realizing it was the alarm I had set. It was time to go back to the mansion. Most people would be excited on their birthday. Mine has always been ruined by my parents. They use it as a business venture. Just once I would like to have a normal birthday party, not an entire ball. But I know that won't happen. Not as long as I'm Little Miss Perfect.
Sighing, I set my diary back to where it was before and leave my hiding place. The library was mostly empty by the time I left, which was perfect for me. As I made my way back to the Manor, something felt different. Instead of the usual dread, there was something there that I wasn't familiar with. Almost like a griffin was clawing at my stomach and my nerves were higher than usual, but it wasn't a bad feeling.
In any case, it didn't take long to get back. Surprisingly, there wasn't anything on the path like there usually is. Upon entering, I see the twins blocking my path.
"What do you think you're doing?" They give a nervous smile before pushing me to my room.
"Oh nothing mittens, just waiting on you! We have to get you ready after all!" Emira starts with a nervous laughter.
"Yeah! Besides, Mom and Dad want us to escort you!" That struck me as a bit strange. They've never had the twins do that before. 'A Blight Does Not Need An Escort In Their Own Home.' That's what Dad said on my 5th birthday, and how it's been since. Why would that change now?
Before I could start questioning them, they shove me into my room and lock the door from the outside.
"We'll be back when it's time for you to come down!" Edric yells while walking away.
"See you in a bit Mittens!" With one last shout, both of them were gone. I sigh in irritation.
"Those two better not be up to another prank or so help me!" I stomp my foot and head towards my closet to look for the dress Mother had picked out. It wasn't as gody as usual, just a simple dark purple flowing dress with a sleeve on one side and none on the other. It had a dark green vine pattern with light purple and dark blue flowers stitched into it. It was sparkly, which I wasn't too fond of, but they looked almost like stars so I wasn't as put off as usual. I didn't do anything different with my hair, so I was done pretty quickly. I grabbed my Good Witch Azura Book 4 from under my bed and started reading until it was time. I had gotten through chapter 8 before the twins came back.
"Hey Mittens! You ready?" Ed yells through the door. I sigh and mark my page before hiding my book again and walking towards the door and opening it.
"Let's get this over with." I leave my face blank as we start down the hall. The twins flanked me on both sides, mirroring blank expressions as we walked towards the ball room. We made it to the terrace entrance and waited for my que as the twins left to take their places at the bottom of the stairs. I fix my posture and place my hands in perfect position and wait for my name to be called. I don't wait long and the doors open as I move forward. I stop briefly and give a bow before starting my descent down the stairs. As I walk, a soothing song on the piano starts to play. Lights start to rise from the floor as I walk, lighting my path down the stairs as I go. When I reach the bottom step, something happens.
My dress starts to change as the lights start to swirl around me. The bottom starts to get slightly poofier, but not overly so. It keeps the design but it doesn't look stitched anymore, more like the fabric was made with it. My sleeve disintegrates and is replaced with a lighter colored lace instead. My hair gets let down and a tiara is weaved into it. I don't know how it looks but I can tell it isn't too fancy. I hear everyone gasp over the music as well as the shocked yet seemingly pleased looks on my parents. Thank goodness, I would rather not deal with an angry Mother right now. As the song ends I am queued to talk by a nod from my father.
"Thank you all for coming. I sincerely hope you enjoy the party." I give a small curtsy and get a pleased nod from my mother before the next song starts to play. However, instead of my brother taking my hand for a dance as usual, the lights go out. A spotlight comes on and the crowd parts and one person stands out.
She's here.
