"We don't know," Girlfriend responded. Boyfriend walked up to her, placing a hand on her shoulder comfortingly. "But... we're going to get you out of here. We just need you to remember who you were."
Who were you? Who were you? The question bounced around in your mind, scratching the walls of your skull and making your head ache and wonder who was I? Who was I? Who--
Like a lightswitch being flipped, it came back. Not all of it, of course, but enough.
"My name... its-- its Y/N M/N L/N. I went to high school with you two, and we're the same age, and we've always been in the same grade," you said, letting the words fall off of your tongue. "I-- I remember you, and Keith, and-- and Pico, and--" you let the last name drip off of your tongue like poison, leaving a bad taste in your mouth and a feeling of disgust in your chest, "--and Sam. And I'm..." You gulped.
"I'm not supposed to be here. I'm human.
"I'm human."
And that was enough. You, Keith, and Cherry were ripped out of the computer at once. It took you a moment to realize what had happened: you expected the process to be painful, or shocking, but it had been so easy.
Well, initially, anyways. Keith and Cherry had been placed on their feet by your user-- no, she's not the user anymore, is she? you thought-- but you had a rougher time adjusting to reality again. Your knees buckled under your weight, and you fell to the ground at once. You registered Cherry and Keith coming to your side to help you up, but your head was pounding so hard that you couldn't understand what they were saying. Oddly enough, the one thing you did register was that the clothes the system had put you in were extremely uncomfortable. The fabric scratched your skin and limited your movement, and it felt absolutely awful. You couldn't wait to get out of this awful, stuffy outfit and into something nicer, and definitely more comfortable.
The two helped you up, and Keith sat you down while Cherry went to fetch you something to drink. She returned with a cup of ice water. You took the drink, gladly, and scarfed it all down in only a few seconds, gasping and feeling unable to breath properly, as if you'd ran a billion miles between the computer and where you were now.
When you were done, you finally noticed that her parents were standing there in front of you two. Her father was leaned in the doorway, and her mother was clutching the laptop you had come out of (you felt strange seeing it-- was it really that small?), and you froze up immediately. You didn't know why they were here, and, well-- they didn't look angry or anything, but they didn't look particularly happy, either. They seemed sort of annoyed, and the last thing you wanted to see was the people who had trapped you inside of a computer for almost two years being annoyed.
You gulped. "H-hi, Miss Mearest, Mister Mearest."
Her mother nodded your way (which was better than being killed, you supposed), and her father replied, "Good to see you again, L/N. Cherry," he began, turning to his daughter. She looked at him expectantly, sitting up to pay attention to her father's words. Her eyes were wide, and she seemed a little anxious. You wanted to ask what was going on, but you felt as though you could only watch what was happening.
"He's out," her father continued, "and he's okay."
Cherry stood up at once. "Where--" her voice cracked, "Where is he?"
Her father nodded up towards the second floor, and Cherry moved past him and ran upstairs at once. You raised an eyebrow, and turned to Keith. "Uhh.. what's going on? Who's out?"
Keith could only shrug and give a slight grimace to you, which made your feelings sink even more. Vaguely, you felt like you knew who they were talking about, but you didn't want to believe it. Why would they save him, after he was such an asshole to Keith and Cherry?
Wait. Was he ever an asshole to Cherry? Something began to stir within your mind, but you weren't able to focus on it long.
At some point, Miss Scarlette had left the house, and Mister Dearest was standing in front of you two.
"Now, I've got a certain Literature Club game to find. You," he pointed at Keith, who flinched and sat straight up, as if being scolded by a teacher. "make sure Cherry doesn't get in over her head with this, y'hear? She's a sweet kid, but... Satan almighty, she might be bitin' off more than she can chew with you and him." He nodded to you and nodded up at the ceiling to accentuate just who he was talking about.
Keith gave a little salute in response, and Daddy Dearest nodded and headed out the door. Just then, you heard footsteps descending down the stairs, and Cherry soon appeared in the doorway. You were hoping to god that it wasn't him, but you had a feeling it was already too late to hope.
"Y/N, BF," she began, "I have someone I'd like you both to meet. For real this time," she added, with a look to Boyfriend.
She stood away from the door frame, and behind her walked in a tall, handsome man with choppy, intricately styled strawberry blonde hair. He was wearing a wrinkled, half-tucked blue button up, slate blue pants, and he had a loose, pink tie wrapped around his collar. He smiled, sheepishly, and waved to you and Keith.
"Uh... hey... y-you," he looked at you, and it was clear he didn't entirely recognize you yet. "and, uh, hey, K-Keith. Sorry about... earlier."
Keith gave a beep that sounded like an it's okay! or perhaps a you're good, man!
Meanwhile, all you could do was sit there, simmering in your despise for the person in front of you. It was so odd-- why did you hate this guy so much? Sure, you had some rough memories of him, but..
Suddenly, it came back. It all happened in a flash, but you knew enough to understand just why you hated this guy's guts so much.
"Y/N," Cherry spoke, suddenly. "Do you remember Sam? We went to high school with him!"
"Oh," you began, venom dripping from your words, "I remember you, alright."
You stood to your feet, your fists balled at your side. You saw Boyfriend sit up, gearing up to hold you back or act immediately. You saw Girlfriend's shoulders droop, and you watched as Sam looked at you not only with fear, but with recognition. And that recognition soon turned into a venomous hatred that matched exactly how you felt about him.
