Sunghoon waved goodbye to his friends, covering up his stained shirt with the scarf Jiyoon lent him.
The four of them walked the same way down the road, Sunghoon going the opposite way. He remembered Jiyoon saying 'you'd better give that back or else I'll kill you in your sleep', so Sunghoon would definitely take care of it. The raven haired boy thought back to what happened earlier at the café. The boy with all black clothes and a mask, bright brown hair. He seemed uncomfortable, not in the sense that they had just bumped into each other. No, it wasn't that. Something was clearly bothering him, but Sunghoon doubted he would see the boy again.
Sunghoon shrugged the small problem away for now, thinking about what he would do when he got home. Jay was right, he should face the problem head on instead of just fuming about it and pushing his parents away. If the problem would be solved, they need to talk about it first.
Hopefully, they'll understand.
— Sunghoon quickly explained everything to Yeji when he got back, their parents sitting downstairs with tension.
Sunghoon basically ran inside the house, took Yeji from the couch, and into the hallway upstairs. It was the next day, Sunghoon went for a walk, only to come back after five minutes after pondering before approaching Yeji about the situation.
"So, you want to do this? Finally?" Yeji asked. Yes, it was true, Sunghoon and Yeji were against their parents, but the problem was that they never talked to them about it. They used their actions, leaving rooms and wearing scowls on their faces. Sunghoon wanted nothing more than to understand. Understand why they were always gone, why they left them just for business and money.
"I'm sure. You say what you want to say, and I'll say what I want to say. We've been trying to get them to understand how hurt we were, but they just thought we would get over it, I suppose. We need to talk head on. I wasn't smart enough to know that, how can a top student not know that?" "Hoon." Yeji held her older brother's shoulder.
"It'll be fine. Let's go."
They walked hand in hand down the steps, it wasn't something they often did but it was a nervous atmosphere, and they did it during those times.
They say down on the couch, their parents on another couch.
"Yeji, Sunghoon. What's going on?" Their mother asked. They looked at each other, nodding. They looked back to their parents.
"Mom, dad. We need to ask you something." Yeji started, determined to keep talking.
"Why? Why did you leave us when we were so little? We didn't form any good bonds because you weren't there to guide us on how to be good siblings, we never fought but we never talked either... you were in and out of the house paying the bills from out of the city and leaving us alone all the time, aunt Minha had to check up on us all the time and we didn't even know who she was because you were so wrapped up in your stuff and you had the nerve to never tell us! In and out... you stayed for some time, and then you went."
Sunghoon then quickly followed up.
"Even if we grew up, had great achievements, you only ever told us that we did a good job. You never stayed to ask us the important things, like how we enjoyed our lives or how school was. Only when we got a little older you began showing some interest. Why, did you think that we would take encouragement better as adults and totally dismiss the fact that you didn't encourage us at all when we were kids? We never got to know you as parents that well either! We had to push ourselves in school, and we were able to reach high spots, but at what cost? We were without your guidance, without your words. We cried and got bruised over and over because we rarely ever had you in our house when we woke up. All this for money. Money, for gods sake! I just don't understand what good leaving us like this did for you. Only leaving your pictures with us..."
Their parents were left in awe, the two had finally let out the feelings they had cooped up inside them for so many years.
"We had no idea you felt that way..." their mom breathed out, clearly perplexed at the situation.
"So you just assumed we'd be able to get to know each other and be okay with aunt Minha checking up on us? That we'd learn just like that? We needed our close family to each us the values of life..."
"Sadly, yes." Their father inhaled. "I think me and your mother both realize now that we made a mistake. Actually, we thought about it for the past couple of years. We could tell something was off with the two of you, but I guess we couldn't really know since we don't know each other that well. And that was our mistake, truthfully." "Would you accept our apology? We can't cancel our trip but... we promise that we will be more caring towards you and even face time! We can learn about each other while your aunt tends to you. When we get home, we'll manage the business from home and spend all the time we can with you." Their mother smiled sadly at the two of them.
Yeji and Sunghoon looked at each other, nodding their heads. "We'll give you another chance." Yeji said to them. Both parents let out sighs of relief, hugging their children tightly.
"We love you both, we are so sorry." Their dad said.
"We love you too. It's okay... let's start over with all of this." Yeji said.
Start over.
