He had been staying with his aunt with Yeji for five whole days and yet Jake was active on none of his socials and none of his other friends knew where he was. He decided to take matters into his own hands. It was the 17th, there was only a few harsh winds but the snow had died down since yesterday. The boy called a taxi and bid farewell to the other two, saying that he will be hanging with some friends.
"Where will we be going?" The taxi driver asked. "1117 Star Drive, please." Sunghoon answered. "You got it."
He looked out at the city lights early in the morning as they drove, the boy's stress growing as they stopped in front of the house. Jake had given him his address but they never hung out at his house. I wonder why we never spent time here. "That'll be fifteen dollars, please." Sunghoon gave the fee and thanked the driver before getting out. The driver went away, Sunghoon inhaling before walking up to the large red home. He knocked, only to see the door was left open. "Eh?" Sunghoon walked into the spacious area, hearing some shuffling around. "Hello? Jake hyung?"
"Sunghoon? What on earth are you doing here?" He whipped his head around, Via standing at the stairs with a box in hand. "V-Via noona? What's with the box? And where's Jake?" Via sighed, putting the box down and sitting on the steps. "We are moving out."
Sunghoon's soul just felt like it had shattered into a million pieces.
"So soon? And without telling me?" "Jake isn't telling you anything because he wants to keep you and your friends safe. We move around all the time, to avoid her."
That 'her' that John was referring to on the phone. Who are they so afraid of...?
"Her who?" Via shook her head. "Nothing, I must meet up with them at the park."
The park.
"Sunghoon!"
The boy's legs took him far away, towards the area where many people were, attempting to find John and Jake in the crowd. He ran towards them, calling out his beloved's name. "Jake!"
Said boy whipped his head around, eyes widening in both fear and shock upon seeing the boy. "Y-You shouldn't be here Sunghoon...!" Jake stammered, John looking at them sadly. "Why?" Sunghoon breathed out. "Why, why did you have to leave me and everyone else so quickly? Leave all of this behind?" "Guys, we need to leave now." Via came up next to them, Layla with her.
But according to a new voice and their pale faces, it was too late.
"Now what do we have here?"
They turned around, a female with brown hair and a beige cardigan standing not too far from them. "You." John snarled. Is this the 'she' they were talking about? "Why, you two aren't happy to see me? And- oh how sweet, you got yourselves a dog too." The woman scoffed, looking up at Jake. She narrowed her eyes, speaking up. "You look familiar to me in many ways. You're friends with them?" "Yes." Was all Jake could say. The woman only spared Sunghoon a glance then looked back up to Jake, laughing slightly and covering her mouth.
"You're so naive. You thought I wouldn't find you..."
"Jessica."
Jake went stiff, body shaking. "You're leaving. Right now." Jake said. "You put me through so much hell, I don't want to ever see your face again!" Jake cried. "You're coming with me, runaway. You think you could go your whole life without being found? Pitiful human."
I don't know what's happening but... I will protect Jake. No matter what.
"You heard him. Don't bother staying." Sunghoon said. Layla also barked at her violently. "Who are you to intervene!?" The woman yelled. "Leave! You aren't wanted here." Via interjected. "You'll have to go through me." Sunghoon followed up.
The woman looked at all of them before her gaze fell to Jake again. She said nothing else before leaving.
That's when Jake broke down into tears, falling onto his knees on the grass. "Jake!" Sunghoon hugged him tightly, not minding the feeling of wet spots being created in his shirt by the other's salty steams of tears.
"Sunghoon..." Jake looked up at him. "Who was that, hyung?" "It was my mother."
Jake's face was still brimming with tears, but he stood up and looked up to the sky.
"It's time I told you everything."
