"Guards!" the Queen shouted.

Tae braced himself, taking a step back towards me as the double doors at the end of the room to our left swung open in force. The front two guards briefly stilled, seeing the devastation around us from their dead associates.

"Kill them" the Queen breathed out, it was almost a whisper.

My head whipped towards her, just as Tae pulled away from me to meet the guards that had began sprinting towards us.

Queen Lucile was just staring at me, not giving away any emotion. We kept eye contact as I flicked out my wrist, sending so many bolts away from me, and they knew their target. The grunting sounds of the guards that were around us, made her turn her head to glance at them. My stomach dropped, as I saw how many guards there actually were.

And Tae, who had just bit into a guard that tried to get past him to me, screamed out as his teeth glided into his neck.

"They don't all have to die" I muttered, glancing back at the Queen.

She gave me a sadistic smile, letting me know she didn't care how many guards she had to waste, our lives meant nothing to her. She wanted me dead.

"Veri!" Tae's panicked voice called out as I turned my attention back to him.

Four guards were closing in on me, Tae had no choice but to let them as he was being backed away by at least ten guards, as I glanced my eyes over them. I took a step back, as I couldn't take my eyes away from Tae. He was just staring at me, slowly backing away himself, making more of a gap in between us but there was no option, and I could feel how livid he was. We knew of course he would be able to take on ten guards, but not all at once. We weren't that naïve. Desperation filled my mind from his emotions.

One guard moved in front of me, and I snapped my hand out to land on his throat just as he got within arms reach, I was mainly calculating with the air around me, feeling the guard move through it. I couldn't give him time to grab me. Within a second, his whole body was poured in flames, and I brought my hand away from him, seeing his body crumple to the floor in front of me.

I knew what I had to do. There was no other way, because we weren't going to make it out of here otherwise. I pulled my barrier away, letting my scent fill the room. The Queen looked at me, full of wide eyes. The guards all momentarily froze, from the rush of power they felt from me. Pulling away my cloak.

I took a step to my right towards her, and she suddenly stood up.

She waved her hand, and I stilled, seeing the guards all charge at once at Tae. But two guards appeared at the end of the room, looking desperately at the Queen.

"Your Highness – " one guard started to call, but the Queen silenced him with one look.

My heart skipped a beat as I looked over at Tae. He had managed to rip apart two guards before he was forced onto the ground. His eyes were gleaming jet black at me, as his canines were down, as his face was pushed on the the side against the ground. Blood dripped from his mouth, as he bared his fangs at the situation.

It took six guards, to hold him down.

I turned to look at the Queen, who seemed to be waiting for me to say something. She looked smug, and rose one eyebrow.

I took a deep breath, "if you let him go, I will denounce the throne. You won't see either one of us again"

She was quiet for a few seconds, but I knew that was useless. She had already made up her mind in how this whole scenario would play out, and there was no doubt in my mind that she had this plan from the beginning. At least she didn't underestimate the things Tae and I would do for one another.
