Midas

Ring...Ring...Ring... I opened my eyes, grumbling. Maya stirred next to me, equally grumbling. I rubbed my eye then answered my phone, "Hello?" I asked, a little ruder than I should've.

"Sorry to wake you boss- kind of surprised you're sleeping so late actually- but Tek has discovered a Shadow Base on the island," Tina said. I sat up making Maya let go of me. "I'll text you the coordinates. I know you're not home so I figured you want to see this."

I put the phone on speaker, trying to conceal a yawn. "Tell me when you sent them Tina. Are they nearby?"

"I sent. Are you at your childhood home?" She asked.

"Yes." Maya sat up and looked at me. I glanced at her, putting a finger to my lips. She did it back. I looked through her text and looked at the details. "It's fairly close by actually. Okay, I'm going to go check it out."

"Do you need backup boss?" Tina asked.

I looked at Maya, then back at my phone. "No, I'll be fine. I have my guns, and if trouble arises, which it shouldn't, I send out an emergency SOS."

"Yes Sir. Also-"

"Sir?" It was Tek. "If you can, will you write down anything else you see there? I don't know what they're doing, but if you see any regular person there, we will need it documented. Along with guns and such." Maya looked at my phone. "If we need to do a rescue mission for the people, we will."

I looked around my room, then gestured to Maya for a small basket of stuff. "Will do Tek."

"Thank you Sir. Be safe." There was movement.

Tina cleared her throat. "Okay, back to what I was trying to say. Maya isn't home. Do you know where she is?"

I looked at Maya who glanced at me. She was pantomiming something... "I think she said she was going to stay the night with a friend." Maya shook her head. "Or she went to a party?" Maya moved her hands, frustrated. "She's with a friend, I remember now." Maya facepalmed.

Tina was quiet for a moment. "Do you want me to pick her up?"

"No, when I'm done with this investigation, I'll go get her. Thank you though."

"Yes Sir. Be safe." Tina hung up.

I looked at Maya. "What friend would I stay with Midas? Cam and 8 live with Turk. Rem works in the hospital. I don't have any other friends."

I stood up, and took the basket, looking through it. "Can't you phone one of them and have them lie for you?"

"You want me to get my friends to lie to save my ass from Tina?" Maya scoffed. "It wouldn't be the first time." Maya pulled her phone out, quickly dialing. "Cam, darling? I know it's early, but I need you to lie for me."

I watched her as she paced around the room. I shook my head and found my binoculars. "Cam you know I like Midas; will you please lie for me in case Rox calls?" I looked back at Maya, who stopped pacing. "Because Midas and I snuck out and we went somewhere and stayed the night. Please Cam, you know how much this relationship means to me." I watched her reaction go from desperation to excitement. "I owe you so much, thank you! Yeah, sorry. Go back to sleep now. Bye." Maya hung up the phone, a sigh of relief. "They'll lie for us."

I looked at my phone, "It's ten am; this is early for them?"

She nodded, "They work odd hours at the beach of Sweaty Sands." I nodded in understanding. "What do you have?"

I showed her the binoculars. "I don't know if your ability can really reach that far, but if not, we can look through these." She took them, and looked through them. "I used them when I did treasure hunting."
