(AE#2) An Adolescent's Resolution

Start from the beginning

"So you know what this means, right?" Ray asked. "We'll have to work harder than the others."

"Remember what Mama said, though?" Y/n reminded. "She said that we're probably the smartest the farm has seen, other than Norman, of course."

Ray nodded while shrugging a little. "Yes, but brains are not the only things they want. We may not have to worry so much about brains, but you and I's efforts and results with the life skill things will also play into it."

"Yeah." Y/n nodded. "We're supposed to be the 'perfect married couple' aren't we?"

Ray smirked. He put a hand on the side of Y/n's head that was farthest from his arm and pulled her close to him. "We are the perfect pair, aren't we?" He joked. Of course, nowhere in history of the world was there such thing as a perfect pair. They both knew that. Everyone had their flaws.

Y/n's mouth straightened into a thin, embarrassed line and lightly pushed him away. "Hey..." She spoke suspiciously. She then got a thought. "You really won't leave or forsake me for yourself or another girl here? She may be prettier or smarter or more fun to be with. There's an astounding amount of pretty and smart girls here. W-"

However, she felt her chin be lightly grabbed with gentle fingers. Ray moved it towards him so she looked into his dark, shiny eyes. He had a solemn face on. "Never." He let go and ran his fingers through his hair. He turned away a little. "You may not know this..."

       "Hm?" Y/n voiced.

Ray took a deep breath. "I've always liked you. I thought I did not. I denied it as much as I could; especially when you first introduced yourself. You were kind of like Emma there." He and Y/n scoffed out of laughter. "But once I suddenly suggested to you to go see Sherry... I realized I cared for you and there was no way around it. If I hadn't had an immense concern for you and your wellbeing, then I would have never done it. At the least, I would have told you with Emma and Norman." He sighed shakily. "Norman..." He shook it away for a second and retaught his breath. His hands slowly held out invitingly. Y/n put her hands in his. "I found myself loving you more with each passing day from then on. I never thought I'd be here. I never thought I'd be somewhere other than that miserable house, holding hands with you and confessing to you my love. If you will allow me, I would like to stay by your side forever. I won't leave you. Will you let me do so and cherish you through this as well, Y/n?"

Y/n could not help but smile. She chuckled. She swiped his hair out of his face a little. "You think I'd get rid of you? I don't want to do this without you. Ever. But don't forget to let me love you, too, Ray. This definitely is not some one-sided relationship. I've definitely loved you, too. It's kind of embarrassing to admit it out loud... It feels weird, heh." The h/c haired girl divulged. "But it's the solid truth! I won't abandon you for the sake of myself. You're the reason I'm even here. I'm thankful for you coming with me, even if it is misery and straining. I can do it if I have you." She sighed. "That sounded stupid."

Ray smiled broadly. It was the first time Y/n had seen him smile like for a few weeks. "Yeah, it was awful, but who cares?" The two enwrapped each other in a hug. Who hugged first? An unknown fact. The two then pulled away.

The two glanced around the room. It was kind of depressing, no kidding. There was an old lamp on an equally ancient nightstand. A bunk bed was to the side of the nightstand. The sheets were a little ragged, but they would do. It would be awhile before this would truly feel even remotely like home.

"Guess we got some renovations to do, huh?" Ray suggested nonchalantly.

Y/n shrugged as she glanced at him with a smile. "It's the first thing we can do as a 'married couple.'"
