WARNING: There's a part in here with a tiny spoiler in TDC about Newt. It's nothing that big, but if you don't want to know then don't read.

You couldn't take it. Being trapped by these walls was maddening. You needed to get out. The Maze was your only option; you'd never been it, just heard about it from MInho and Thomas. But right now a Griever sounded better than spending one more minute enclosed in the Glade. You were working in the fields, trying to plan your escape. The one person that was going to give you the most trouble was Newt. Newt was your protector in the Glade, he was always by your side. But right now he was in deep conversation with Alby and everyone else seemed fairly busy. This was your chance.

You threw down the gardening tools in your hands, they made a sound but you couldn't have cared less. You took off toward the opening in the doors. "Hey Y/N! What are you-" Newt yelled, but you were closing in on the Maze. "Stop Y/N! Don't you bloody dare!"

It was too late you had crossed the threshold. You kept going, you wouldn't stop. You couldn't stop. You finally felt free, even with in the Maze surround by these walls you felt freer than you ever did in the Glade. You could think here. Your clouded thoughts were now crystal clear. 

"Y/N!" The most heartbreaking scream came from the entrance to the Maze. You turned around, Newt was standing right in front of the doors. Tears were dripping down his chin, he stood watching you.

"I'm sorry Newt," you sighed.

He fell to his knees, "Y/N please. Please come back. Don't leave me. I-I need you."

"Newt, I can't. I hate it in there. I hate everything here."

"I know. God do I shucking know," he stepped closer to the doors. He took a shaky breath and walked in. Your eyes widened in surprise, you'd heard him talk about how much he hated the Maze, but here he was standing in it.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm gonna stay in here with you until you decide to come back," he stated more confident than he was a minute ago.

"You hate the Maze though."

"I hate the thought of losing you more."

"I don't want to go back," you sat down and leaned your back on a wall.

"Then we can stay here forever," Newt mirrored your actions. You nodded. "You wanna know how I got my limp Y/N?"

You'd always wondered, but had been to shy to ask, "Um s-sure."

"I tired to jump off the walls. Climbed the ivy as high as I could and jumped. Alby found me and dragged me back before the doors closed," he closed his eyes and another tear escaped his eye.

"Oh my- Newt..." You moved over to him and wrapped you arms around him.

"I was so scared that's what you came here to do. I thought I was going to lose you."

"No, Newt, I just couldn't handle being in there. It was too much, I came here to think. I'm sorry I worried you."

"Please come back to the Glade. Stay with me. Be free with me," he grabbed your hand, his pleading eyes meeting yours.

"Newt, I-"

"I don't want to here that 'I can't' klunk. I need you to be safe. The safest place for you is with me, in the Glade," he stoop up and pulled you with him.

You sighed you weren't going to win this fight. He pulled you into the Glade and you gazed upon the place you hated. This wasn't your home and it never would be. Alby had tried to yell at you, but Newt had given him a look and he walked away.

"Newt, why couldn't you just let me be? No one would care and I'd be happy."

"I would care and you're going to be happy. I don't care how many jokes I have to tell or how long I have to tickle you, I will make you happy," he pulled you to him and kissed your forehead.

"I don't think so but whatever false hope you want, I'll let you have," when his lips hit your forehead it was the first time your thoughts hadn't been clouded here. A smile tugged at your lips as you held him tighter.

AN: Sorry I didn't update yesterday but my day was weird. My orchestra got a superior but at the end of the day someone wouldn't leave me alone and it drained whatever energy I had left.
