It was freezing outside, Texas weather was unforgiving in the worst ways possible.

In the summers it was so brutally hot outside you felt like you were cooking from the inside out, and then during the winter is would get so cold you could see your breath the moment that you walked outside.

Scarlett stood outside of the House of Blues bundled up tightly, with her bag slung over her shoulder filled with CD's.

She could hear music playing from the inside of the venue, and she figured that the show would be ended soon considering she had already heard 3 different bands play and now the fourth was on.

After doing a bit of research she found out that Waterparks, the headlining band was also from Houston.

She didn't really look much into who the members were but she did listen to the album they were currently touring, it was called Double Dare and Scarlett knew that she would be listening to it for the foreseeable future.

There hadn't been very many people that had come out of the venue that night so far but she had managed to give 5 people a CD, she wouldn't say that the sound of her music was similar to Waterparks but she hoped these people would appreciate the lyric content of her songs.

Once the show had ended, pretty much everyone who walked Scarlett completely ignored her existence and she was left wondering if she should of just gone out with Madison since his had proved to be a major waste of time.

Discouraged Scarlett stood there digging through her bag searching for her keys that had seemed to go missing when she heard a voice behind her that made her jump.

"Oh fuck, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to scare you." she hears the person quickly apologize and she shakes her head turning around with a soft smile.

Finally grabbing her keys, she hooks her bag back over her shoulder taking a deep breath before speaking. "I get scared if the wind blows leaves too fast, you're totally fine."

Scarlett stood there admiring the man standing in front of her with faded blue hair, the light from the venue illuminating his mismatched eyes.

"I was just seeing if you needed a ride or something? You had been out here all night and I was worried that someone had left you here." the man points, and Scarlett furrows her eyebrows confused at the random kindness she was being shown by him.

He felt his heart drop when he noticed the look he was given from the girl standing across from him and he quickly backtracks.

"Oh wait that was fucking weird." he breathes out shaking his head, "I wasn't watching you or anything. I've just been around the venue all night and I-."

"Again, you're fine." Scarlett cuts him off gently, holding up her keys with a grin.

"I've been here all night because I was trying to hand out my EP to people, it didn't not go as planned. I was just trying to find my keys because I'm a disaster of a human." she replies softly, and his eyes light up.

"Yo can I have one?" he asks eagerly and her eyes grow wide.

"You want one of my EP's?" she repeats slowly, and he nods excitedly.

"Fuck yes I do, I'm Awsten by the way." he replies sweetly, holding his hand out for her.

Scarlett feels her face warm up, looking down at her feet before reaching into her bag and grabbing out a CD. "Scarlett." she replies, handing him the CD.

"Pretty." he mumbles softly, and she can't tell if that's in response to her name or the picture of her that was on the front of the cover but either way it gave her a feeling in her stomach that she hadn't felt in years.

It made her happy to see how excited he got once handed the CD, flipping it over to look at the tracklist on the back.

"6 songs is pretty good for an EP, did you produce it yourself?" he asks, not looking up from the case, opening the inside happy to see that it contained her social medias.

Scarlett clears her throat nodding, "Yeah I made it in my apartment bathroom if I'm being honest." she says with a soft laugh.

Awsten closes the CD, turning his backpack to the front of his body before slipping it into the front pocket zippering it tightly. "Bathrooms have the best acoustics." he replies, and she looks at him looking for further clarification.

"Are you a musician?" she asks curiously.

At that moment Awsten didn't want to be that guy from Waterparks, it was nice to have a conversation with someone who clearly didn't have any idea who he was. "Something like that." he replies shyly.

Scarlett wasn't a nosy person by any means, she kept to herself and minded her own business but she couldn't help but feel like there was more behind Awsten's answer than he was letting on.

She decided to brush it aside, if he wanted to tell her more he would and it wasn't her place to push his boundaries.

"Well Awsten it was really nice to meet you tonight, I hope you like the EP." she tells him sincerely, and he nods.

In some sort of weird feeling he was almost sad that their conversation was drawing to an end, they had only been talking for the last 10 minutes but it was nice to have someone to speak to.

"The pleasure was all mine Scarlett, is it cool if I message you on one of these social medias after I listen to it?" he asks her curiously, and she shrugs her shoulders with a laugh.

"Only if you have nice things to say." she says jokingly, and he gives her a look.

"What if I just want to talk to you again?" he counteracts and Scarlett stumbles over her words, taken aback by how straight forward he was.

She fumbles with her keys, attempting to keep her hands busy to distract from how nervous she was.

"If the EP is bad, and you still want to talk we can just pretend like you didn't listen to it. Deal?" she says as confidently as she possibly can and Awsten nods agreeing easily.

"Sounds like a deal to me red." he says jokingly and Scarlett groans making Awsten laugh.

"You're fucking joking." she says straight faced and Awsten holds back a laugh.

"Not a fan of the nickname?" he asks, still attempting to not laugh.

Scarlett can't help but laugh at how amused Awsten is by his own terrible joke, "Do you think you're the first person to make a bad joke over my name?" she asks him with an eyebrow raised.

Awsten shrugs his shoulders smirking, "My last name is Knight if that makes you feel any better."

"Awsten Knight." she says thoughtfully, "Sounds like the name of a musician, or something like that." she says slyly relaying the same phrase he had given her a few minutes prior and his face heats up this time.

"Well Awsten Knight. I have to get home, but I look forward to hearing from you." she says thoughtfully, before turning around and walking back towards her car.

Awsten stands there dumbfounded for a moment by the conversation he had just had, he had never met someone who was so easy to talk to right off of the bat.

"What was that? Who was that?" Jawn asks curiously, slinging an arm around Awsten's shoulder as he walks out of the venue and Awsten shakes his head.

"I have no fucking clue, but I'm going to find out more about her that's for damn sure." Awsten says determined.
