IT WAS TIME FOR THE FLIGHT

IT WAS TIME FOR THE FLIGHT. The team was ecstatic about flying to Los Angeles, since none of them had been before.

Coach Bombay, Ms. Mackay, and Mr. Tibbles were all guiding the kids through security, and Coach made them wear black t-shirts with their names plastered on the back.

Eventually, they got to their gate, right in time to board. They gradually walked to their seats, with Charlie seated in between Adam and Y/n. Y/n was sitting in the window seat, as she wanted to look at the stars during the plane ride.

She was able to see this, since they all arrived at the airport at around eleven. The flight would take about four hours, the time being twelve when they would arrive in California.

Y/n got comfortable in her seat before the pilot made an announcement. "We are third in line for take-off, we should depart in about fifteen minutes. Flight attendants, prepare for take-off please."

"Anyone wanna play cards?" Y/n asked the two boys near her, earning giddy nods from them.

They decided to play Uno, since that's the only card game other than a basic deck of cards that any of them had brought onto the plane.

After what felt like twenty minutes of playing Uno, and Adam beating his two friends horribly, there was another announcement.

"Please stay seated and buckle your seatbelts, we are taking off now. Prepare for some minor turbulence on the way up."

The engine started to rumble, and all the lights were turned off, except for a dim blue one that stretched across the ceiling.

"Y/n, this is the worst part," Charlie nervously looked over at the girl, his eyes widening as they started to slowly move.

"Remember what I said earlier. Plus, there's such a small chance of us crashing anyway," Y/n lightly smiled, soon after looking out the window.

She could see the faint glow of the city lights, moving slowly as they continued down the runway. A gentle fog rolled in, making the windows cloud up with mist.

Y/n looked back at her best friend, only to see him fiddle with his fingers anxiously.

Her fingers intertwined with his, sending another wave of nervousness throughout his body. This was a different type of anxiety. One that distracted him from his temporary lost fear.

The plane started to get faster and faster, making Charlie squeeze Y/n's hand harder.

It boosted itself off the ground, giving the passengers a feeling of butterflies.

Charlie could feel Y/n's hand barely tremble, fearing that his comfort source needed one as much as he did.

He took a breath before lightly rubbing his thumb against her shaking palm.

Adam noticed this, making a note to himself to ask Charlie about it later.

After a few hours of mild chit chat and laughter, most travelers began to fall asleep.

"I'll be right back," Y/n stood up and let go of the hand she forgot she was holding. She walked down the isle and into the restroom.

Given the chance, Adam turned to Charlie. "You like her, don't you."

"Adam!" He whisper-shouted, smacking Adam in the arm. "Keep your voice down, people will hear you."

"Everyone's asleep. Plus, you didn't even deny it."

"Okay, okay, maybe just a little," Charlie confessed. "Just don't say a word to anyone."

Y/n had walked back to the row of seats, "Say what?"

"Nothing," He responded quickly, putting his legs up so Y/n could walk back to her seat.

"Alright then.." She laughed nervously, re-buckling her seatbelt.

One more hour later, and the plane was as silent as ever. Not a single word could be heard throughout the entire rest of the flight. Everyone but one was asleep.

Hearing the sound of Adam's quiet snores, Charlie's eyes started to flutter closed.

He fully shut his eyes, falling completely asleep soon after. His head fell onto Y/n's shoulder, jolting her awake.

She looked around in confusion at first, but after seeing Charlie's messy hair on her shoulder, she smiled. She stared at his peaceful state, making her smile even more.

Y/n slowly put her arm around the boy, making him lay in between her chest and arm. He barely stirred before returning to his sleep.

The girl started to yawn, not long after resting her eyes.

She hoped they could do this more often.
