Chapter 8
The start of hell
I reach out my arm to grab my suitcase and bag but Michael gently grabs my arm and pulls it towards him.
"Hey, I'll get your bags. Just relax."
Michael smiles at me, brushing a strand of hair out of my face before he goes to pick up my bags.
My heart does flips inside my chest but I try not to think about it too much. Michael is only trying to help me.
"Come on. Let's go inside." Michael smiles, leading me straight up to his bedroom, placing down my bags in the corner.
He wonders off into his ensuite bathroom, coming back out with a first aid kit.
"Oh, I'm fine. You don't have to-"
"But I want to." Michael gives me another warm smile before taking out a few things needed to patch up my bleeding forehead.
"This might hurt a little. Okay?" He warns me and I nod my head.
I sit on his bed and he does the same. He is sat a few inches away from me, the rubbing alcohol and cotton in his hand.
He places it on my forehead and I hiss in pain, clenching my fists. Michael obviously notices my pain and stops. He takes my hand and gently squeezes it.
"I'm sorry Y/N." He apologises but all I can do is look at him. I find myself staring for a moment before breaking back into reality.
"Oh. No it's fine. Really." I offer a weak smile and he gives me a small nod in return.
As he begins cleaning the wound once again, I don't think about the pain. All I think about is...
Him.
His perfect hair, perfect eyes and smile. All of him is perfect.
"Y/N? Hey, can you hear me?" Michael waves a hand in front of my face with a worried expression.
"Oh... sorry, yeah. I zoned out for a moment. What did you say?" I ask, my face heating up from the embarrassment.
"I just said that I'm finished." He let's out a small, effortless laugh as he packs away the first aid kit.
"Right. Thank you Michael. For everything. You don't know how much this all means to me." I smile.
Michael returns the smile, placing back the first aid kit and walking back over to me. He gently wraps his arms around me and pulls me to his chest.
"You're always welcome Y/N."
I sigh in content, leaning into his chest. For a split second, I swear his heartbeat jumps but eventually returns back to its normal metronome.
"You know, I wish things could stay like this forever." Michael says, his arms still wrapped around me.
"Yeah, me too." I smile to myself, finally feeling at peace.
Michael begins to pull away but still has his arms wrapped around me. He looks at me with a look in his eyes which I can't read.
A soft knock on the door makes us jump apart and the door opens slowly.
"Hey Michael? Dinner is r- Oh. I didn't know you were here Y/N." Mrs Afton gives me a small smile and I wave back in return.
"Hello Mrs Afton. I'm sorry I didn't make you aware that I was here." I apologise but she just shakes her head.
"Nonsense! You're always welcome to stay whenever you feel like it. You can join us for dinner if you'd like." She offers and I nod my head as she leaves the room.
Something in this house is strange. Everyone is acting as if Evan never died. But I won't be the one to bring up the event.
"Shall we?"
Michael playfully holds out his hand and bows to me. I take his hand and stand by his side.
"We shall." I laugh and we begin walking downstairs, our hands locked together. We swing our arms back and forth, laughing at our childish behaviour.
However, we instantly stop when we notice the harsh glares of William.
"What on earth is going on here?!" He raises his voice which makes me jump slightly.
I feel Michael squeeze my hand to let me know that everything will be okay.
"Oh William, let them be." Mrs Afton scolds her husband as she brings in the plates of food.
William continues to glare at me as I sit across the table next to Michael. If looks could kill, I would surely be 1000 feet underground by now.
"So... What brings you here Y/N?" Mr Afton asks as she sits next to Elizabeth.
"Well my dad forced me to move away. I hated it there. So I ran away. This was the first place I thought to come. I'm very sorry for intruding Mrs Afton." I apologise.
Come to think of it, I shouldn't have come here. For some reason, William obviously hates me. Maybe it's because he decided to blame my father for what happened to Evan. Who knows.
"Well Y/N will only be staying for a week. Isn't that right Y/N?" William grips the knife in his hand, looking directly at me.
"Uh... yeah. It will only be a week." I say sadly, fighting back the aching pain in my chest.
"Oh. That's a shame. Michael seems to really want you to stay." Mrs Afton smirks at her son.
Michael blushes a bit next to me and I try to fight back a smile.
"Mum!" He shouts, trying to hide the evident embarrassment on his face.
"Well it's too bad Y/N has to leave then." William smirks.
My heart sinks but I fight back the tears.
If only I didn't have to go.
