Out Of Place (DBZ Various x Reader)

~(Y/n)'s POV~

It was hot out. Your clothes clung to your skin, sweat making you feel sticky under the warm spring sun. You hadn't even been outside for more than two minutes and you already felt soaked. You wanted to flop down onto the ground, but you knew the dirt would give you no relief from the heat. A large hand appeared in your vision holding a water bottle, and you followed it to its source as you took the cold drink.

"Wouldn't want you getting dehydrated," Nappa said as he sat down next to you. His large form easily dwarfed you and gave you a bit of shade from the sun's rays. You unabashedly scooted closer to the Saiyan, using him to hide from the heat as you cracked open the water bottle.
"Ahh~!" The cool water felt amazing as you took a sip, and you could hear a low chuckle from the man next to you.

"Not a fan of the heat, eh?" he questioned, your gaze drifting to look at him.
"I don't normally mind the warmer weather, but this is nuts," you huffed, pulling your tanktop away from your sweaty skin. Nappa didn't look much better; his shirt clinging to his muscles and the sun reflecting off his head. His gaze was focused on something in the distance, and you followed it with your own eyes. The Son family and the Briefs family were sparring not too far away from the two of you.

You supposed that was the Saiyan's way of celebrating Father's Day, seeing as that's the only thing they'd been doing since the large breakfast you'd helped Bulma put together this morning.
"I'm surprised you're not joining them," you hummed, nudging Nappa with your elbow. The large man didn't budge, but his eyes flickered back over to you. You flushed a little under the intensity, but didn't look away.
"Well, I- nevermind.." he cut himself off rather quickly, earning your attention.

You raised a brow, sitting up a little straighter at his dismissal.
"Aw, c'mon big guy! You can tell me anything, you know that," You said, placing a hand on his forearm. Nappa sighed, leaning back a little bit, and you didn't miss the brief flash of longing across his face. You frowned a little, shifting closer to him.
"What's wrong?" Your question seemed to hang in the air, and for a moment, you wondered if you'd even get an answer.

"They're celebrating your Earth tradition; Father's Day. I'm not a part of that." He said simply. You blinked, tilting your head slightly as you figured out why he seemed so bummed out.
"You practically raised Vegeta and Raditz though!" you said, burrowing under Nappa's arm and nuzzling up to his side, the heat be damned. He sighed again.
"I don't think Vegeta thinks that way..." he paused, watching the two Saiyan families off in the distance, "Besides, Bardock is already making up for lost time with Raditz and Kakarot,"

You bit your lip, remembering the story Nappa had told you after you'd first met him. Of how he'd died here on Earth years ago, and how Vegeta had been the one to do it. Their relationship had been a little tense since then, and you weren't sure how to fix it. Nappa cared for the Saiyan prince, that much was obvious to you, but Vegeta wasn't exactly... He was a tough shell to crack, and while you knew Bulma and Trunks had softened him up, you weren't sure how much.

Plus, with Bardock and Raditz having both been revived, the two Saiyans had been spending more time with Goku and his sons. While you were glad they were bonding, you felt bad for Nappa, who had also practically raised Raditz after Bardock had passed. He'd been the one to watch out for the two while they served under Freiza's reign as boys, and now they were all grown up. And maybe Saiyans had their own way of showing parental affection that you didn't know of, but it still hurt you to see Nappa so sad. It didn't suit the normally boisterous Saiyan, and you wanted to help him feel better!

You enveloped the man in a hug, or at least, the best your arms could wrap around his large form. Nappa welcomed the hug, easily scooping you up into his arms. You leaned against his chest, turning your gaze out to watch the other Saiyan's spar.
"I'm sure somewhere in that angry little man, he thinks of you as some sort of father figure," you said in an attempt to lift his spirits. He rested his chin on your head, and you could feel his tail wrap around your waist.

"He's a stubborn little shit, so I'm surprised he didn't put me back in a grave the moment I showed up again." You could feel his chest rumble with his words as you looked up to gape at him.
"Vegeta might be a bit bitchy sometimes, but he's changed a lot since then! I think he was glad to see you; he's just too emotionally constipated to tell you to your face." you huffed, ignoring the uncomfortable itch of your sweaty skin to hug the Saiyan tighter.
"You don't have to believe me, but at least don't give up hope on him, ok?" Nappa offered you a small smile as he nodded.

"Hmm. Just for you, tiny." He teased, and you stuck your tongue out at him playfully.
"Nappa!" You both turned at the loud shout, and turned to see the swarm of Saiyans had paused their spar.
"Get your ass over here or we'll start without you!" Vegeta shouted across the plateaus. You turned to give Nappa a grin.

"I'd say that's an invitation to join them," you hummed, climbing off of him. He looked at you, a little bewildered as he got to his feet.
"Go kick his ass in your weird Saiyan way," you teased, leaning up to give him a quick peck on the lips before attempting to push him towards the others. Nappa laughed at you and his feet lifted off the ground.
"Make sure to root for me,"

You gave him a thumbs up and a large grin as he flew away. Sure, Vegeta was an ass sometimes, and he didn't communicate his feelings well, but you'd spent enough time with Bulma listening to her gossip to pick up on the subtle ways he showed affection. It wasn't a huge step, but you hoped this would lead to Nappa and Vegeta reconnecting on some weird Saiyan level. And as you watched the spar start up again, you had a good feeling things would work out between the two.
