"That there was something about him, and I wasn't ready to write him off just yet."

"They bought that?"

It wasn't entirely untrue.

There was something about Jimin a quality Jungkook couldn't quite express in words.

Most of the time it was hidden under the omega's clear discomfort at the situation he found himself in.

"For now. How long more do we wait before we start making overtures to one of the other omegas?"

Time was not on their side.

"Let's give him another week. He may surprise you yet."

"Has he surprised you?" he asked frankly.

"Frequently. He's not dumb, you know, no matter what some of the others think. Not expressing your thoughts doesn't mean you're not having them."

Jungkook stretched out his arm and let his hand settle over Tae's.

They had to be so careful in the palace that even this meeting was a little risky.

But since Tae was there,he'd take everything he could get before the alpha had to leave.

"I'm not so interested in his thoughts right now. What about you? How did it go at home?"

He knew going home made Tae uneasy. His father had always been a volatile man but being forced out of a career he loved had heightened that volatility.

"Oh, you know. He thinks I'm wasting my time here, that I'm not chasing promotions like I should be, that I'm going to end up running away with some wayward omega who'll give birth to half a dozen kids then drop me for another man. The usual."

The tension in Tae's shoulders said it all.

"That bad, huh?"

"Yeah. He's been drinking again. I don't know how Mom puts up with it."

"She's gone to stay with her sis, Dad's out with Uncle on the boat."

"Do you think she'll leave him?"

He hadn't dared ask the question before, not wanting to upset tae.

but he'd never heard the alpha express things so clearly where his mom was concerned.

"She loves him, despite it all. I think she'll take longer breaks in the city, but I don't think she'll ever turn her back on him."

Tae groaned and leaned back, staring up at the ceiling.

"She mentioned grandchildren, again. I don't think she'd be too unhappy if I found a nice omega and settled down."

"That's not going to be our life," Jungkook said carefully.

They both knew it.

Roping a fully consenting adult into their lies was one thing, they weren't going to entangle a bunch of innocent kids in there too.

"Does Jimin know that? Does he realize? There's been all this talk about heirs."

"Does he know that none of that applies to him and us?"

"I think so," jungkook said.

"I mean, we may not have said it explicitly, but I think it was implied in the whole us not being around much and him living his own life as far as possible."

"Before this goes any further, I think we need to be that explicit. Lay it all out clearly-what our expectations are and what his are."

"Alright. We'll do that just as soon as we can."
