"I find the peasants enviable, if only for their simplistic garments," the princess commented as she put on layer after layer, being adorned in precious fabrics and gems to go eat her breakfast. "I suppose this is what it means to maintain an image."
"Prince Taehyun awaits your arrival my lady," the maid told her, hands folded neatly in front of her.
The princess took one last look in the mirror. As much as she detested the tight corset that had her breathing shallow breaths, and the petticoats that had her legs sweating up a storm, she had to admit, she did look fit to be a princess.
The princess exited her room and was escorted to the dining room, where Prince Taehyun sat, eating his breakfast.
"I would've never expected you to be awake so early," Taehyun commented once he had swallowed his mouthful.
The princess sat down in front of him, a plate placed in front of her, and then all of the maids and kitchen staff left, leaving the two siblings alone. As soon as she was sure that eyes were off of her, the princess allowed her posture to relax, but the corset didn't allow for much to happen. The metal boning dug into her ribs and stomach uncomfortably.
"Today is a special day. Of course I would be awake so early," the princess scoffed.
"The question is; did you wake up early, or did you simply neglect to fall asleep?" Taehyun asked, raising a brow as he used his knife to cut into a piece of food on his plate.
"It seems my tricks are simply no match for your intellect," she sighed.
"You should have slept. Don't you know that once our sister is settled into the kingdom in the west, you are to find a suitor? I'm sure father wishes to marry you off to the younger Choi sibling. You should be on your best behaviour." Taehyun's gaze was almost threatening.
The youngest princess was about to respond when the doors opened. In walked their sister, freshly dressed in her normal gown rather than the luxurious wedding gown she'd previously worn.
"Taehyun, (Y/N)," she greeted as she moved to the head of the table. She had the grace of the eldest and the most maturity of the three siblings and she carried herself with such. Her posture never relaxed, she was always poised, she always woke up on time. Truly the pride of the Kang family.
The entire kingdom knew of the three siblings and they knew exactly what kind of attitude the king held towards each of them. Being the eldest, his daughter Jiwoo was the apple of his eye. She was his most precious gem. The first to be married away, and the most important alliance creating asset to the king. The middle child, Taehyun, was his only son, therefore, he was the heir to the throne. His successor. He would gladly give up either of his daughters for the safety of his son. Finally, the third child. Despite her shortcomings as royalty, he showed a more lenient attitude towards her, and everyone believed that it was because he had no use for her, other than marrying her off for a less important alliance. Perhaps one with a smaller nation. The king would be content if his third child married anyone of noble status. Even a lowly knight in the Royal Guard would've pleased him.
"Will father be joining us?" Taehyun asked, knowing the answer.
"He is tending to last minute business for the wedding, so I am afraid he will not be joining us."
"How unfortunate," the youngest sighed as she moved the food around on her plate.
"Do not play with your food," her sister scolded. "You must be on your best behaviour today! No slouching. Eat properly. You just impress the Choi family. If you marry into the family, it would strengthen the ties between our kingdom and theirs."
