The trip was seven days long. It often consisted of the princess waking late, although she did make the effort to try to wake herself, and the Prince talking about his home. The princess had realized on the seventh day that she hadn't learned anything about her betrothed.
They drew closer to the castle, the walls were visible if the princess looked out of the carriage at an awkward angle. She decided to take the time that she had to learn more about the Prince.
"Prince Soobin," she started. "I love to hear about your kingdom, it's wonderful to listen to, but I was wondering if perhaps you could tell me about yourself."
"You wish to learn about me?" He asked, genuinely surprised.
"Of course," the princess responded, taking her eyes off of the window. She gave the Prince the most gentle look she could.
"Well... I am a Prince," he started.
"I already know that," the princess giggled, shaking her head at his antics. "Is there a colour you're particularly fond of? Do you visit the Royal garden? What's you're favourite flower? Do you have any sisters? Is there a food that you often enjoy?"
The Prince was shocked with the questions she was asking. No one had ever asked him such questions. He wasn't sure why he found such mundanity to be strange but perhaps it was the fact that he was anything but mundane.
"I... I like the colour of the sky," he started. "The light colour of blue that the sky becomes when the clouds are wispy like tufts of cotton that've been pulled as long as they go without breaking. It's so entrancing to me that I find myself looking at the sky often. It's a wonderful thing." As he talked to the princess, he looked at the sky, but it was growing dark now, a brilliant dark blue chasing away the warm hues of the sun.
"Perhaps I shall try to look for this colour of blue," the princess smiled. She could picture the colour in her head, but she wished to see it the way he described it.
"I'm often very busy so I don't have time to visit the Royal gardens, though I'm sure you'll love to see them. Our garden is known for its gladiolus flowers. We have many different flowers, but the gladiolus is native to the east. It's truly breathtaking."
With the talk of the Royal gardens, the princess found herself excited to see all the blooms. The North was known for their Orange Lilies in particular. She found them boring after years of staring at them. She was excited for a refreshing sight.
"I suppose the food I'm most fond of comes from the village outside the gates of the castle. The baker makes the softest, most fragrant bread. It's as if it was made with air and clouds," he described.
"I'm beginning to feel so excited that I may not be able to sleep," the princess giggled, thinking of all the things she would be able to do once she set foot in the Eastern kingdom. As of yet, she hadn't even set a foot out of the carriage. She understood that her lack of combat skills made her a liability so she hadn't raised any concerns about it, but it wasn't something she was happy about.
"I wouldn't count on being able to sleep tonight. Our people love nothing more than festivities and you will be welcomed with the best that our kingdom can offer. All of the people will wish to meet you. Especially after my father spoke so highly of you when he announced my betrothal."
"What exactly did he say about me?" The princess asked, leaning forward in curiosity.
"He only spoke about what he heard from me, which is that you are someone who is wishing to try hard for our kingdom. After they heard that, the affections of the people were guaranteed. Our people are well acquainted with mistakes, for we've made many, but if you are ready to put forward an honest effort, the people will love you," he told her, sure to look her in the eyes.
