How didn't you think of this before?
HOW?
You felt like a damn idiot, you had no idea how you'd managed to miss the possibility of the teacher being involved. And all night you and L had been up tracing Rosie's records to find out the teacher she was with before everything happened to her.
She attended Westside primary school, only in year 1. And she'd gotten through most of the year before shit hit the fan, so she'd spent a considerable amount of time in that school around the staff. Her teacher was a 47 year old woman, by the same Miss Andrea. She'd graduated from university of Winchester with a childcare and teaching degree and had been teaching at various schools over over 20 years.
The last person you'd expect to be a criminal, but unfortunately she was the biggest suspect.
You and L had gathered all the records you could about her and since wammys was legally in custody of Rosie, you could request her school reports and records too. Upon reading her mid year report, you found that even the principal who'd leave notes on each child's report had praised her for her intelligence.
Rosie was definitely fit for wammys gifted kids.
She's gotten all A's, although her socialising and speaking abilities were a little lower than average. It made sense her trauma response was to go mute, if she wasn't great at making f friends and public speaking to begin with. Nothing on her report seemed out of the ordinary, and the teachers note even seemed normal.
Rosie is an exceptionally smart kid for her age. Although she lacks in social skills and stammers her words, she excels in the academics. I believe she'll do well academically in the years to come, although I do suggest pushing her out of her comfort zone more to build her social confidence.
The comment wasn't too odd. Just reporting on her academic skills and social awkwardness as any teacher would write on a report.
Even though everything seemed normal, you and L knew there was more then meets the eye going on here.
"What do you say we bring her in under the impression she's going to be questioned regarding the kidnapping as a witness. That way she'll think we aren't talking to her as a suspect but as a person who may have seen something. If we do that, and she thinks we aren't onto her, she might accidentally reveal something that's not out to the public. Or she might try and spin a story that doesn't line up with what we know" you suggested.
L leaned back in his chair and stretched his back out after sitting in front of the computer all night.
"Sounds like the best approach. We can't let her know we're suspicious of her, she has to think she's just a witness" L replied.
"And that way on the very slim chance it's not her, she'll trust us and lead us to the actual culprit"
You were sure it was her to picked Rosie as someone to hand over to kidnappers, but on the tiny chance it wasn't, and it was another teacher or something, you needed to get that information out of her as well.
"This weekend, I'll have her bought into the police and we can question her in a proper interrogation room. Don't let her figure out we're taking care of Rosie or we're with the orphanage. We're simply investigating her case and talked to her when she was rescued" L said.
"Definitely don't let her know we have connections to Rosie. She might try and hide details if she knew, plus I don't want her knowing Rosie is here for safety. All we tell this lady is that she's in an orphanage, we don't tell her which one" you replied.
"Absolutely, I don't want some creep hanging around my childhood home OR the other kids growing up here"
L was rather protective of the orphanage, which was understandable since he was one of the first generation kids and spent his whole life here. It was his childhood, and now the childhood of his successors and their friends. He wanted to keep them safe, and so did you because you loved and cared for them.
