The end of times

We've been traveling for over a month now. We're doing okay; I've found a car once again, which was great. It was easier to travel, but the hardest thing was finding food and water. I drove down the snowy road as the girls were sound asleep. I'm not sure how but the radio still works, however it's just static. But it's something I was listening to, a type of country music. I've killed too many walkers then. Now I think it was around 50, maybe less, maybe more. I took a turn and slammed on my brakes. There was a sign talking about a safe place that showed where it was. I memorized it and started driving slowly. It took about an hour to see something but soon I saw what looked to be a fence gate; then I saw people, alive people. I was happy but I was terrified of them. I slowly got out of my car and closed the door. The gates opened as a strange man walked up to me. His clothes looked old. He looked old as well. "Is it just you?" he asked. I shook my head and pointed to the girls. He nodded "Is anyone bit?" "No sir" My voice was low as I was exhausted. But it was high enough to hear "can we trust you" he said getting a little closer "yes.'' I whispered. Backing up a little bit he stood fully up and nodded "ill show u a place u can stay" i nodded he headed towards my car and got in i got into the passenger seat he drove to a little house "are they yours?" "what?" "are they your kids" "oh! No they're not ''''siblings?" "no im helping them find their mom" "ah i see" we have a place where parents lost kids or kids lost parents if there is any chance they're still alive i would take them there. I nodded "what about you, where's your parents?" "They didn't make it." He looked over to me. "I'm very sorry." I shrugged , not sure of what to say to him. He got out of the car to show me a small place I could stay while he was showing me around. I stopped "Is there any place for the girls to sleep?" "no, like you said they are not yours" "well yes but what if their mom is not here" he started walking away as i ran after them "then they'll go to a home we have for orphans" i sighed "i'll let u guys stay here for the night, if u don't like the way i've set it up you can leave" his voice was hinted with anger as he talked to me i nodded and left him alone he left the small house i walked out to wake the girls "where are we?" "We're at a safer place, tomorrow we can go look for your mom. Ok?" "okay, but what about you" "what about me" "where will you go" "i'll stay here" "what if we can't find her" I went quiet for a bit "we will" They got out of the car and grabbed their stuff i showed them around "you guys can have the room, I'll sleep on the couch" They nodded and went to sleep. I slumped on the couch tears filling my vision. I knew they weren't mine so why was it so hard to see I curled up in a fetus position as I looked for warmth and closed my eyes, letting myself drift off to sleep. I felt poking on my cheek "hey c'mon wake up" I heard whining. I rolled away from the annoying kids "please! You said we can look for our mom today!!" I slowly got up. I haven't slept that good in a while. A small smile formed on my lips. I haven't seen them that happy in a while. "Okay okay let's go" I sighed and stood up. They ran outside of the house. I followed and was stopped by the guy yesterday. "I'll show you the place" I nodded, we all walked down a small street. It hasn't been this peaceful in a while. I couldn't shake the feeling of sadness off. We finally reached the place he opened the doors to . It wasn't very big but I did see some children and some adults. I held the girl's hands tight. I looked down and their eyes looked everywhere. I was happy they would find their mom but I was sad too. I don't want to be alone. That's when I heard ''Abby! Clair!" a woman yelled out. The girls let go of my hands and ran to the woman who was their mom. I sang, trying to keep in my tears. They hugged each other. I watched with a smile on my face. I did promise them, didn't i? I saw them point towards me? As the older woman walked towards me she pulled me into a bear hug. "Thank you" she whispered in my ear. I nodded and let go. The girls gave me one last hug as we said our goodbyes. I've been dreading this day. They walked out the door with smiles on their faces i wiped my face "walk with me" the man's voice came from behind me he took my arm as he walked around the neighborhood i watched the people till one caught my eye it was her neck it looked like a dog bite but i knew what it was fear entered my body
