The Intermission passed rather quickly, at least from Izuku's perspective. Momo's family were there, but, in order to keep the surprise, she didn't meet with them. However, Izuku did seek out Harmony from the solo acts. She was talking with a recognizable pink haired inventor Izuku knew well enough, asking about how it was like working with Izuku's costume and other gear techniques. He waited for them to notice his presence, but that was quickly proving to be a waste of time, as they could go on that for hours. Clearing his throat, the two girls turned to him. "Oh, hey!"
The black haired kid vampire asked the inventor he'd entrusted his weapons to: "Mei. How's progress?"
Smiling, she gave a thumbs up, reporting good news. "They're done. They're back at the workshop."
"Thanks." He nodded, then turned to the pseudo-doppelganger. The one who dressed up like him. Fortunately, this one was not an insult or a direct threat to reality... and was quite moving, at least with her voice. "Harmony, right?"She was nervous, being directly addressed like that. "Y-yes?"
"Good job."
The blunt nature of the praise caught her off guard. "Huh?"
Bearing his teeth, he stated, "You heard me. Perfect song choice. Great singing voice. I hope you win. Oh, and tell Aria I said hi." Even though the two, that being Aria and himself, never really met... he still wished her well. After all, without her, he would've attacked so many more people. Imagine if nobody as fast as Miruko got involved... they'd be dead, and he'd have a lot more people on his tally, large enough as it was.In essence, she saved him, albeit not directly.
Momo, standing nearby, also said, "Yeah, tell her hi from all of us. Izu and myself at least."
She nodded, but then asked, "Um, I'm sorry, who are...?"
"Momo Yaoyorozu. Just call me Momo." She said, smiling, before reminding Izuku with a tug on his arm. "Love, it's almost time."
"You're right." Izuku turned back. "Just so ya know, I voted for you, Harmony." They left back for the auditorium, the costumed girl surprised that it even just happened. However, when she realized why they were leaving, the support student excused herself from her classmate and ran to the auditorium. After all, if they were heading back now, that meant they were going to be in the next competition... and she wouldn't miss that.
They didn't go quickly back to the staging area, where all the competitors were waiting for their time, practicing, getting themselves hyped. That would only increase Izuku's nerves, not fix them... but there was another reason to go to the stands. After all, the first duo was Jirou and her mysterious friend. Seeing her yellow raincoat glint, the audience hushed, waiting to hear what would come next.
A second figure walked up, with Midnight behind them. He was wearing a large ragged coat, with an even larger paper bag covering his head. Whoever he was... he was hiding it well, even with his bare feet striding onto the arena. "Welcome back to the auditorium!" The pro heroine started, grinning to the audience's delight. "Now we begin with the first of the duo singers!"
And so, the song began. It sounded happy at the beginning, but it didn't stay that way for long.
Jirou started the song, the visuals on the screens showing gameplay from some video game Izuku didn't know the name of. "In the Dwindling Twilight, Time is unwinding, Lines are Blurred. Under the guise of a child, Into your nightmare I've been lured... Like a puppet, tied and hung up, tightly bound... Your strings I've been strung to, I dream that I'd run away from you, if my feet could feel the ground..."
It was then that the mysterious friend started to speak, and it was then that Izuku recognized the individual. Based on voice alone. Really?! Him?! He's never been pitch perfect before... but now...
His deeper voice reflected a different character, the one he played as, a small boy, from the visuals. "Now I'm out of the woods, safe and sound as I board up the doors, but once I'm in the clear, free of all fear, I find that I'm hungry for more..." The masked boy's voice became stronger, "The Hunt has begun, hold onto your hats, if it isn't knives, it's eyes in your back, so whether or not you're friendly with rats, Pretend You're A Mouse in A House Full of Cats!"
Jirou took the lead again, Dancing under her rainjacket, "Pale's the prison they doomed me to dwell, with room for just one, but two in a cell, the dusk is upon us, I knew as it fell, that darkness is honest, are you to yourself?" They both sung the next part together: "My thoughts are distorted and body dysmorphed into monstrous forms of the awfulest sort. We're locked up with dolls and their hollowed out corpses all haunted by hunger, the omniscient force..."
Jirou then wrestled the lead back, "So often my reveries are littered, with the debris of my hopes and dreams, as we all grow old and bitter, a tale foretold in broken screens. How blinding the glare, your mind is so weak, I'd like you to share this nightmare with me. I hide in my hood, not to show you my eyes, I know that I'll fail, with no coattail to ride."It was then that the boy took the lead offered by the end of Jirou's verse. "Mannequin paired with Marionette, In dissonant discord, our deadly duet. We're lost in a lullaby, slumbering away, where sins lay hidden, but rarely they stay..."
They then sang together, their voices empowering each other perfectly: "It was only in my shadow, that I'd finally found a friend, till the light that bound us let go, and the devil took my hand, as she closed my eyes... remind me once again: What's the dreamer's lie...? Every nightmare has an end."
And so, the song continued, they sang in perfect unison, either giving one or the other space, or singing together. It was very powerful, a high bar to beat. After it was finished, they both bowed together, before getting off the stage, only after giving a brief description and finding Izuku and Momo clapping for them.
"How did we do?" The violette asked, looking between the two of them, gauging their reactions.
"You both did great. However, I have to have a word with your friend here..." He approached and ripped the paper bag off, only to be met by Bakugo. He was smirking, his red eyes meeting Izuku's own.
Grinning, he stated, his knowledge of his "I thought I recognized your voice, Kacchan. How'd you change costumes that quickly?"
"I fucking didn't." He responded. "I only had one of those fake fur scarves pinned to the collar, and the ears were on a headband. It was easy.""Right..." Izuku muttered. "Are you trying to make me break up with her?"
He grinned wider at that. Ever competitive, he wouldn't give up here, no matter what. "No. Just giving you a challenge. Don't fucking worry, you'll be fine."
Izuku didn't look as enthusiastic as he did, and everyone knew that he had a good reason to be as nervous as he was. Soon enough, however... it was time. Time to face the music...
