Y/N's POV
My eyes are peeled open from the sound of screeching metal pounding at my eardrums. The cage like material rattled beneath me when I come to realization. I scan the area in the box leading up to the dreaded Maze. Is this a dream? I slap my face feeling the familiar spit up of water. I begin to cringe, "Wake up Y/N. Wake up!" Im pulling against the metal floor begging someone to save me. Suddenly the box comes to an abrupt stop causing me to fall to my knees. The top doors open to a dark sky and sounds of screaming. Instantly, I peek out the top of the box when my heart falls into my stomach. Wailers are everywhere. People are running for their lives. The setup is unfamiliar though. This is not my Maze. I look around wondering how I got out of the box. I turn to see the top gate open as Gally closes the hatch with direct eye contact. A boy comes sprinting in a different direction pounding on the gate, "Gally please! Please let me in." Then the boy stares at me, "What are you doing!" His hands grip both of my shoulders, "You need to run!" The last word is cut short as a Wailer rips his body from mine. Terror fills my eyes before I begin to sprint in the direction of other people. All around me people were being slaughtered by the spider like machines created by Wicked. I begin to run in the direction of a wooden hut where a curly haired younger boy was urging everyone to get inside. Once a few more people got inside, the boy closed the door and joined all of us in the center. The screams and wailing stopped when I turned to see Thomas, Minho, and Newt all staring at me. This is Maze A... is this really what happened? "Y/N." Thomas speaks. Im left starring at all of my friends. My dead lover in the shadows. My vision begins to create waves of color and distant noises. I blink my eyes as my vision becomes instantly clear. We are still in the same hut as before, but things seem different. Gally is in here now, Newt and Thomas are in the middle, and everyone else is sitting around listening. Newt scans a object lying in his hand as Thomas explains where he got it. They dissected a Wailer in the Maze? "Whoever put us here obviously made the Grievers." Thomas speaks as if he's trying to convince everyone something. "This is the first real clue, the first anything, you've found in over 3 years right Minho?" The rest of them continue to talk as I take it all in. How am I reliving their Maze? How am I here? How can they see me? Then Gally chimes in, "You see what he's trying to do right? First he breaks our rules and now he tries to convince us to abandon them totally? The rules are the only thing that has ever held us together. Why are we questioning that? You know if Alby was here he'd agree with me. This shank," he points over to Thomas, "He needs to be punished." I start to see why everyone was so hateful towards Gally when I first met him. He never trusted Thomas. They talk a little more, yet I am mesmerized by the voice escaping Newt's mouth. It's so real. It's exactly how it was before. Not the version my mind completely made up from memories. "One night in the pit and no food." Newt speaks. This riots the crowd as Newt makes his final claim. "And we can't have non-runners going into the Maze whenever they feel like it. So starting tomorrow, you are a runner." Thomas' posture adjusts straighter as pride fulfills him. Gally looks pissed off as ever and the rest of the gladers are silent. Without warning, I am pulled back to that night. The night underneath the stars when hell broke loose from the walls. The gladers are linked to one another as the leader, Thomas, pulls at a man with dark skin and short hair. The man is being yanked by a Wailer outside of the shack. I run to them as everyone shouts the name Alby. "Thomas," Alby makes direct eye contact with him. "Get them out." I begin to pull him with all my might as I fall to the ground. The air is lit by distant flames around me and shots from all sorts of firearms. The breath is knocked out of me by impact to the concrete flooring. I sit up as my eyes take in my version of hell. The Wicked city, screams in the distance, and crank Newt lying on the floor from attempting to pull him to the cure.

Rowan's POV
The elevator opens to the 50th floor as I step off scanning the nurses on the floor. "Good Afternoon Dr. Young." One of the nurses greets with a smile. "Good Afternoon!" I make my way to the nursing center on this floor. There is less security up here than normal, which is a good thing. Although I would expect more now that they know Y/N Paige is in the building. I walk up to the desk to see a familiar face starring at a computer screen. "Hey Shelby! How have you been?" Her hazel eyes stick to the screen as if I never said anything. "Look I need to see one of the subjects in custody." She chews her bubblegum with no response. "Per Mason's request." Her eyes glare at me sharply. "Actually, I was ordered that no one comes in or out of the cell area. Per Mason's request." She rolls her eyes and turns her attention back to the screen. "Shelby, look at me." It takes her a second, but she eventually acknowledges my appearance here on this floor. "What Rowan? Are you finally going to apologize for standing me up?" Of course. I won't be able to save Y/N because of a mistake I made a long time ago. "Shelby, that was over 2 months ago." She shakes her head. "You asked me on a date and didn't even show up. How pathetic is that? I'm not going to break the rules for someone who can't even commit to a plan." I shake my head. "Look I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I left you there alone waiting for me that night. I had an emergency call in, and I've been busy ever since." She contains her composure. "You could have called." Then she laughs as if we are an old married couple fighting over the silliest thing. "I know. I'm stupid. My life has been crazy the last week. Please, I need this favor. It's really important, and I need you to trust me. Even though I know it's hard to trust someone who already broke that." Her eyes connect with mine for what feels like ever. Then she hands me the key card. "Make it quick. Don't make me regret this." I give her a nod and begin walking towards the cell area. She is probably going to regret this.
Usually there would be guards patrolling in this entry way but no one is found. That reality is surprising and worrying at the same time. I slide the key card in the slot as the door clicks unlocked. I have no time to waste. I enter the cell area and instantly begin searching for Aris' face. Each kid standing in these cells looks horrified. Scared that I will pick them to torture or whatever Mason does to them. Finally, Aris' face appears through the bars. "Rowan!" He shouts when I swipe the card through to let him out. "Where is Y/N? Is she alright?" I shake my head quickly opening the cell door. "Mason knows she's here. He has her. We need to hurry." I begin to quickly rush towards the exit when Aris grabs my arm. "Does that card open all of the cells?" I look down at the plastic card that Shelby trusted me with. Who does he plan on letting free? "I think so." Aris takes the card from me and begins running down the hallway in the opposite direction. He quickly slides the card on a cell and rips the bar door open. Aris is swiftly engulfed in a hug by a boy with dirty blonde hair. The boy is slightly taller than Aris, but not by much. I make my way over to them. They both face me and the blonde boy instinctively tries to attack me. Aris hold him back, "No! He's helping us." The boy looks me up and down, straightening his shirt. And that's when I see it. I know this boy. He's posted all over the city with all of the other members of Y/N's group. The boy looks down the hallway and back at Aris. "Y/N?!" Panic is laced in his British voice. I see a familiar worry in his eyes. I'm instantly reminded of all the times Y/N told me about her lover that died right in front of her. The British boy looks at me intently. "You know where she is?" I find it hard to speak, but I manage. "I think I have an idea." Aris and the British boy begin plotting, trying to figure out a way to get everyone out of here. My ears are ringing at this point. I see the familiar aching in subject A5's expression. I watch as Aris walks over to the emergency fire alarm placed into the wall. I look back over at the boy, imagining her face light up with joy when they finally meet again. I promise Y/N. Aris takes a deep breath before pulling the switch on the wall. I promise to bring you back your happiness. The alarm sounds throughout the building as I imagine the nurses planning to follow evacuation procedures. I promise. Even if it means I can't have you. You deserve to be happy.
"Rowan, you coming?" Aris questions standing at the entrance to the stairs. The British boy, Y/N's lover, ready to go right behind him.
"Let's go get her." My heart races with joy as I imagine her truly happy again.
