Don't You Remember?

Start from the beginning

"You don't love me anymore?" He asks, looking like he's about to fall apart.

"I don't know, okay?"

He shakes his head, "are you planning to come home and have the baby there?"

"I don't know. I might stay here."

"Stephanie, that's not fair. I deserve to be there when our baby is born and there's no guarantee I can get here beforehand when you go into labor," now Lindsey was just getting angry.

Stevie sighs and flips her long blonde locks over her shoulder, "I will have my baby where I feel comfortable."

"You don't get to make all these decisions!"

"Don't you dare raise your voice at me, Lindsey Buckingham. I do get to make the decisions. I am the one who will be primarily raising this baby while you're playing house with Kristen."

He takes her hands and she quickly pulls them back. He kneels down in front of her, but he doesn't attempt to touch her again, "Please let me help you."

"I appreciate the offer, Lindsey. I don't need help. I certainly don't need help financially. I haven't decided where I'd like to live quite yet. If you want to help raise the baby and be part of its life, I don't have a problem with that. I will make sure it knows that you're its father. You'll never be replaced. I wouldn't do that. I'm not that cruel," Stevie says, looking him in the eyes to let him know she's sincere.

"We could be together. We could be a family, just like we wanted," he begs desperately, trying to grasp onto something; anything she'll give him.

She takes a deep breath and rests her hand gently on his cheek, "honey, you already have that with Kristen. I know what it's like for you to walk out and I know that it would kill her. Please don't do that. I don't want anyone to go through the pain and heartache I've been suffering through. You made your choice. I have come to accept that for the sake of this baby. I don't want to continue to be angry with you. It just takes too much out of me and I don't want that negative energy around our child."

She finally takes Lindsey's hands in hers and places them on her stomach. He smiles so big that she can't help but smile back, "there's already a little bump there!" He says, excitedly.

She laughs, "yeah, I think its going to be a big baby."

He rubs her stomach gently, "hey there chunky monkey. I'm your daddy and I love you very much."

Stevie turns her head and wipes the tears from her eyes before running her fingers through his hair, "I hope little monkey has your eyes."

"I hope it has your everything. Your smile and your cute little nose and your personality. I hope it loves music as much as we do," he says, imagining their child.

"Either that or it'll hate it," she says, with a little laugh.

"That's impossible."

Stevie stretches and lets out a yawn, "I think I'm ready to sleep. Being pregnant has taken a lot out of me."

Lindsey nods and helps her up. As soon as she's off the swing she moves out of his grip, once again uncomfortable by his touch. She leads him inside and they both head upstairs. She pauses in the hallway and glances at him, "Goodnight Lindsey."

"Goodnight Steph. Goodnight little monkey," he says with a smile before heading to the guest room.

Stevie goes to her room to get ready for bed. She slips into her nightgown and stands sideways to look into the mirror. She smiles a little when she sees her tiny bump; knowing that her baby was growing within her. As the days went on, the circumstances seemed to matter less and less. She was just happy she was going to be a mother.

She crawls into bed and she's almost asleep when she hears a knock on the door. She groans a little bit, figuring it's her mother wanting to know how things with Lindsey were going.

"Come in," she says.

Lindsey walks into the room and looks around nervously, "can I sleep in here?"

"No," she says without hesitation.

"I'll keep to my side of the bed," he says.

"Nope. Go back to your room," she stands her ground; knowing the last place Lindsey should be is in her bed.

"Is this how things are going to be between us now?" He asks, standing there awkwardly.

She sits up and looks at him, covering herself with the sheets, "probably. I don't like it when you put your hands on me. I understand if you want to feel the baby and that's fine, but anything more than that isn't okay. You have a girlfriend, who may I remind you, is also pregnant. If I were in her position, I wouldn't want you touching your ex girlfriend or sleeping in the same bed as her. You have to stop acting like we're together. We're not. We're having a baby and that's it."

"This is what we wanted. We wanted to have a baby and be a family."

"Right, we did. Then you got someone else pregnant and you decided that you weren't succeeding in having a family with me, so you'd go have a family with someone else. That's fine, Lindsey. That was your choice and I have to respect that. In return, you need to respect my boundaries," Stevie lays back down and glances up at him, "Please go back to your room now."

All Lindsey could do was nod and leave her be as he heads back to his room. He wipes his eyes as he begins to realize that regardless of the fact that she's carrying his child, he may have lost her for good.
