As the lunch bell rang and students started hurrying out of their classrooms you also started packing your notebooks and heading out. The sounds of the teacher yelling the homework and kids chatting fogged out in the background.
It was a special day today.
Holding the little cupcake you had baked the day before, with a match stick and a small blue and white striped candle you headed off to the rooftop.
It was a special day because it was a day for celebration. Or well, thats how you saw birthdays.
You never understood why people disliked their birthdays. Its a day for celebration because they were born that day. Isn't being born into this world something to be grateful for? Maybe not grateful, its not like anyone asked to be born. But it was still ravishing they were born. Maybe not to them, but to the people who adored and cherished them.
But today was extra spectacular as it was the birthday of someone you adored and cherished.
Also one of the few people you knew that despised their birthdays. Or well, didn't care for their birthdays. Someone who would've never told you it was his birthday if you hadn't asked.
Just last week as you were showing him your 'EXTRA SPECTACULAR ZODIAC MAGAZINE' and you asked for his birthday, to your surprise it was in a week.
While you were already over the moon and ready to celebrate he explained how he didn't care for it, that it was just another day.
But to you it wasnt 'just another day' it was specifically his day, so, as a surprise you baked a small cupcake. Not something spectacular, something small and neat just how he would've liked. Or so you hoped.
It was a nice day outside, the sun shined through the school hallway windows and as you walked past them they warmed you, little by little.
Maybe this cupcake would warm Shuntaro's heart, little by little.
Arriving at the rooftop, of course, he was already there. Sitting on the railing with his small bento and chopsticks.
"Happy birthday Shuntaro!!" You yelled across from the entrance of the rooftop. He turned to you, seeing you lighting up the candle to put it just in the middle of the cupcake.
"I told you not to do anything." He said as you approached him with the cupcake in the palms of your hands.
"Make a wish." You said approaching the boy and raising your arms in order to have the cupcake up to his level.
"I don't believe in stupid things like wishes." At that you frowned. How could he not wish?
"I believe in you. You can wish!" You gave a reassuring look. Closing your eyes and nodding. He just rolled his eyes, ducked his head and closed his eyes right infront of the candles. Reopening them, he blew the candle.
"Did you wish?" You asked enthusiastically as you climbed the railing to sit next to him.
"Yes, I did." He answered before taking the cupcake you had baked.
