Is It True?

Y/n's POV

Carson and I are standing guard outside of a containment cell. We're around an hour into our shift and it's been pretty uneventful. That's how most of our shifts are. And in this dimension, the frequency has tripled. Even in our world something exciting would happen once in a while. The only good thing is the shifts are shorter at least. Carson is clearly bored, his eyes dart throughout the hall in search of excitement.

I'm too deep in my own thoughts to be in a state of weariness. I can't stop thinking about what Gustav said. His voice rings through my head as I remember those words. "What is there to say? I'm taking the son of the Scarlet King away from you demented people... Yes, I know about the foundation's little secret." Son of the Scarlet King? 999, the son of the Scarlet King?

I'm so lost in my thoughts, I almost don't hear his voice. "Y/n... Y/n!... Earth to Y/n, are you there?" I glance up and see Carson's confused expression. "Still thinking about what Gustav said?" he asks me. "I just can't stop pondering, man." I explain. He sighs, unsurprised, "You worry too much, I can easily."

I stare at him, "I'm sorry, but how can you not think about it?" "Simple, it's not our job to research the anomalies," he explains. He is so wrong! "What are you talking about? It's the foundation's main job to learn about the Scps," I state. "Correction, it's the researcher's job to study the anomalies. We're MTF personnel, we just deal with them," he replies. "That is true, but still. We need to know what we're dealing with," I argue. "Not me! Most of the time, I charge in headfirst without reading the files and I'm still alive," he states. "And people question why I'm so worried about you," I mutter.

He reads my expression, "If you're so curious, why not search through the database? There's probably some info there that might help if you 'know where to look.'" I think for a second, he is right about that... surprisingly? "You know what, you're right. I'll do that during our break. Thanks, baby bro!" I say. "Your welcome, sis," he replies. Our break is in a few hours, so I'll have time to research the database for information... and maybe do some hacking if necessary.

I smirk at the thought. Carson reads my expression and rolls his eyes. A couple of hours pass and before I know it, our shift is over. I take out my phone and look at the time. "Shift's over," I tell him. "Finally!" he exclaims. He turns to me, "Well, see ya later." He strolls away, off to do whatever. We tend to do our own things during our free times.

I start walking away. "Tell me what you learn!" he yells from across the hall. "I will!" I shout as I continue down the corridor. I enter the locker rooms. I open my locker and take out my Foundation Issued laptop. These were given to us when we started work in this world. I leave it in my locker so it doesn't get wrecked in a containment breach or something.

I close it and hold it in my arms. "Now, where should I spend my break?" I thought. I think for a minute. "The roof seems like a good place," I state. I like to spend my breaks on the rooftop anyway. Not many people come up there, so it's quiet most of the time.

I head for the stairs, the stairway coming into my view. I begin the tread up the steps. After a while, a door comes into view. I open it and step out onto the roof, a gentle breeze hitting me the second I exit the door. I sigh, it reminds me of home.

I scan for a good place to sit. I see a clear area, up against the fence. Perfect! I walk over and take my seat. I open my laptop and login. Clicking on a link, I'm taken to a secure website. I enter my ID and the screen loads. The Foundation Database appears in front of me.

I don't waste a single second. I type Children of the Scarlet into the search box. Those people basically worship the guy, they have to know something. It loads and gives me a list of suggestions. I click on the first suggestion and start scrolling.

After a minute, I stop at a particle section. "Why is Scp 231 mentioned here?" I thought. I've heard of them before, something about seven women having anomalous children. Without thinking much, I click on it. The screen loads and an authorization form pops up reading, "Warning: Level 5 Access is required to view this document. Unauthorized personnel will be tracked, located and detained."

Level 5 Access! Just to view a bunch of pregnant women? I mean, there have been unusual cases I've seen in my years at the foundation. Well, a civilian would call it weird, us at the foundation see it as normal. And if this much protocol is needed to view something simple like this, it must be more than what it seems.

I smile, knew I had to do some hacking. I open the hacker software I managed to install without getting reprimanded. I type into it, the screen glitching before it clears and the file is presented without any other problems. There are still some redacted sections that surprise me, nothing has been able to get past my hacking skills. Carson said so himself.

I sigh, annoyed. I'll take what I get. I resume scrolling, the limited info giving me a better idea of what Scp 231 is... but still no explanation on why 999 is the son of the Scarlet King. I'm about to give up when I see those words, Procedure 110-Montauk.

Without any consideration, I click on it. The screen loads and a warning shown reads, "Warning: The content you are about to view may require you to be administered a Class A Amnestic upon request. If you wish to continue, you have been warned." "I've made it this far, how bad can it be?" I thought.

I click on continue and the file loads. I start reading, the more I read, the more confused I become. "Wait, all this is about is a D-class personnel reading a story to 231-7? What was all the talk about it being so awful you'll want to die?" I ask, dumbfounded.

I resume reading, clicking on more links taking me to different files. Eventually, I reach a file that makes my eyes widen. "So, wait! That little cutie was not only birthed from 231-7 but is supposed to one day face off against his own father?" I say aloud. I reread the section, the same words repeat through my head.

After rereading the section. I straighten up, "I guess that makes sense...?" I realize something, "I can see why Gustav wanted 999 for the Chaos Insurgency." Wow, I kind of see a father vs son fight going to happen. I laugh at the thought. I continue searching for what feels like hours. Out of curiosity, I look at the time, my break is almost over. Better go find Carson.

I stand up, clutching my laptop in my hands. I walk over to the stairwell and head down the stairs. I exit onto the third floor. "Knowing him, he's probably in the armory," I thought. I saunter down the corridor and enter the armory.

As expected, Carson is standing by one of the tables, polishing his shotgun. I call out to him, "Hey, baby bro!" He turns and sees me, "Hey, sis." I approach him, standing two feet apart from him. "So, what did you learn?" he asks, expecting a clear answer.

I think for a second, "Mmh... you probably don't want to know." "You're kidding me!" he states. "Maybe I am, maybe I'm not," I say teasingly. He sighs, "Whatever! Let's go back to work." He stands, picking up his shotgun and we exit the room. All while my head still races with the knowledge of what is to come in the near future.
