"So Y/N," Patty started, "is there anyone you like yet?"
I stared at her. I wasn't offended by the question, just shocked. I didn't think anyone expected me to like someone this early. Not that there wasn't anyone I didn't like, but people don't usually develop feelings this quickly. At least, not in my experience.
"Ah ha! So there is someone you like! Tell me tell me tell me!"
"We promise not to let it slip to them," Kid chirped, that stupid smirk decorating his face.
Avoiding their question, I looked down at a poor attempt to hide the blush blooming on my face. "I should probably go shower. Liz, would you mind showing me to the bathroom?" I mumbled, struggling to keep my voice even.
Liz got up, and as we left the kitchen I could hear Patty teasing Kid, "Silence!" he uttered, apparently trying to hide that he liked me back.
My face reverted back to its normal color as Liz guided me up the stairs. She showed me the bathroom, and told me that I could find towels under the sink.
I shut the door behind me and took a deep sigh. I turned on the hot water, and set my clothes and towel out. Looking into the mirror, I noticed that I was a little flushed. I shook it off, and got into the shower.
After getting out, I had returned to normal. I gathered my clothes in a ball, and walked downstairs. No one was yet to tell me where I was sleeping, and I wasn't about to just assume a room was mine. I also wasn't about to walk down into the living room in my pajamas, which were only a pair of shorts and a tank top. Why I chose this outfit, I don't know. I didn't really plan on going to bed right away. Maybe I was so used to being able to wear whatever to sleep in that I didn't give this a second thought. So, instead of going downstairs, I sat by the bathroom door.
Eventually I heard someone come upstairs. I turned to look who it was, and it was Liz. "Oh, hey Liz."
"Hey Y/N. Any reason why you're just sitting here?"
"Yeah, sort of. I feel a little uncomfortable in this, shows a bit too much. I didn't think to bring anything else to sleep in, I thought I'd be staying by myself."
"Well you could have just told me. I really don't mind sharing some clothes with you!"
"Thank you, I'd like that," I muttered.
Liz led me to her room, and let me pick out some clothes from the closet. I ended up choosing a loose fitting white shirt, and some blue sweatpants.
I walked out of the large closet where I had changed. "It looks so good on you!" Liz exclaimed. I shot her a puzzled look. It was just a t-shirt and sweatpants...but I still accepted the compliment.
"Thanks," I said. After that we walked down the stairs, where Patty and Kid sat, Kid reading a book, and Patty making an origami giraffe. Liz gave me a small shove towards the loveseat where Kid sat, as she went to the opposing one with Patty. I guessed the reason that no one sat on the available sofa was because of Kid's obsession with symmetry, which could be seen throughout the house.
When I first sat down next to him, he didn't seem to notice, but was instead fully invested in his book. Liz gave a soft cough to try to obtain his attention, but that was fruitless. We sat for a moment in complete silence. Patty finished her little giraffe, then lifted herself out of her place. She walked over to the table, and pushed the candle stand a little to the right. Kid instantly snapped his head up, then ran to the table. He put the candle stand back to its previous position.
"Patty! Why would you do that!"
"Because Kiddo! You were being rude to your girlfriend."
Kid blushed, and I followed immediately afterward. Slowly, he shifted his body towards me. "Oh! Y/N, I didn't see you there, I deeply apologize."
"No need to be so formal with her Kid," Liz explained, "it's not like she's one of your father's special guests. She's a student, just like you and me."
"Oh, yes of course." Kid gave a small laugh.
He walked back over and sat down. No one said anything for a moment, until Patty broke the silence.
"Welp! Looks like it's time for me and Liz to go to bed! Night-y night!" And with that, she bolted up the stairs, dragging Liz behind her. Leaving me and Kid alone.
"Here, let's move to the couch. More symmetrical that way," Kid suggested.
After switching over, Kid turned the television on. "Is there anything you'd like to watch?"
"You can pick, I don't mind," I replied.
He nodded, and turned it to something I didn't recognize.
I stared at my hands as they fidgeted, unsure what to say, or if I should say anything for that matter.
I looked over to Kid every few moments, checking to see that he was still there, and every time he was.
Probably the fifth time I looked over, I noticed that he too was looking at me, a kind smile adorning him. I don't know if he was doing the same thing as me the past few minutes, I usually would notice in my peripheral vision, but the focus I put into watching my hands could have very easily distracted me from it. He stared into my eyes for a few moments, and all other sensory input faded into the background. For the first time, I noticed how beautiful his eyes were. Yellow like a sunflower, and lines to separate him from everyone else.
He reached his hand down towards me, and set it up against my cheek. I sunk into it, relishing the warmth. His eyes flickered down to my lips, just for a moment. His smile faded, turning to a look of longing.
If not for the paralyzed state I was in, I might have looked away. But as I was, I was stuck like this, looking into a person's eyes who I had just met.
He leaned down, face nearing mine. His eyes fluttered closed, and mine followed suit. If it were anyone else, I probably would have turned away. But not him. Never him. Our lips met, and I relaxed for what felt like the first time in years. He pushed into me, grabbing the small of my back to ensure that I wouldn't fall back unexpectedly. The closer to me he got, the shorter my breaths became. I had ended up lying down completely, his body raised above me. His free hand joined mine, and after one last press against my lips, we separated. Both of our breathing was rapid, but our chests beat in unison.
Slowly, he pulled me up, and we sat as we originally did, with the exception of our hands joined together.
I stared at the television, not really watching. Every so often, me and Kid would join eyes, untranslatable words passing between us. As the night got later, I started to get tired, the adrenaline of the kiss wearing off.
My head would lean to the side, before I quickly jerked back up, only to drift to the side again. Kid noticed, and assured me that it was okay to rest my head on his shoulder. I did just that, and eventually I faded into sleep.
