Tea (Reader's POV)

The walk back to the house was quiet, but not in a bad way. Even if Kid did try to talk, I wasn't sure I would be able to hold up my end of the conversation.

"Hello? Anybody home?" Kid yelled out, opening the door.

Silence answered him.

He shrugged, "Hm, suppose not."

I dropped my stuff onto the kitchen counter and took a seat, watching Kid as he went cupboard to cupboard.

"What are you doing?"

He turned to me, and his look of frustration turned into warmth, "Oh, just looking for some tea. I thought we'd have some together while we waited for Liz and Patty to get home. You don't mind, do you?"

I shook my head at him, "No, tea sounds nice."

Kid smiled at me, and returned to his search.

Just as he found it, the door opened.

"Kiddo~! We're home!" Patty announced.

Kid sighed, and put down the box of tea, "We're in here Patty."

She bounced into the kitchen, and upon seeing me rushed over and hugged me.

"Y/N! I haven't seen you all day," she pouted, still clinging onto me. Kid seemed annoyed by it, but I was the only one to notice.

"Patty, get off," Liz gently scolded, grabbing Patty's shoulder and pulling her off of me. As the weight lifted, I could hear Patty whine, but she didn't do anything in retaliation.

After Liz had ensured that I would no longer be a victim to Patty, she sat beside me.

"So Y/N, were you wanting any help with your hair or makeup for tonight? I'd be happy to help."

"I would be too!" Patty chimed in excitedly.

Liz rolled her eyes, "And Patty."

"Oh, um, yeah, if you don't mind. We can start whenever you want."

"Let's start at six thirty," Liz smiled.

Kid looked over to us, puzzled, "Six thirty? Wouldn't that be too much time? The dance isn't until eight."

"Ugh, you just don't get it Kid," Patty huffed, "we need time to create a masterpiece!"

Patty winced as Liz whacked her over the head, "Y/N's already a masterpiece."

Patty was quick to retaliate, "That's not what I meant, come on Kid, back me up!" She whined.

"Leave me out of it."

I giggled, "Six thirty will be fine Liz."

Liz grabbed Patty's hand, and turned to Kid, "Well I suppose it's time to make our exit," she told him with a wink. Kid's face burst into a bright red, but he didn't reply to her. Giggling with each other, Liz and Patty left us.

"Y/N, you know that you don't have to let them use you as a dress up doll," Kid informed me, facing the stove as he began to heat up the water, "I never much saw you as someone who would wear makeup anyways. Not that it's a bad thing!" He rushed out that last part, seemingly desperate to make a recovery, as if he had said something bad.

I was going to tell him he didn't say anything wrong, but he started talking again before I could.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you. Since I'm making a speech at the beginning of the ceremony, I have to leave at seven thirty, so I apologize but I can't be your escort."

Being honest, if only to myself, I was a bit upset. But it'd be okay, I could always just walk with Liz and Patty, "Oh, alright."

Kid looked at me, the look on his face plainly saying that he could tell I wasn't really fine with this, but he didn't say anything further on the topic.

The water had finished heating up, and Kid set a steaming cup in front of me, along with a small container of milk, a tea bag, and a sugar dish. "Here, I'm gonna go ahead and get ready. There's not much time until I must leave."

Looking over to the clock I saw that there were three more hours until seven thirty, but I assumed that Kid just took his time to get ready.

I nodded, and reached out to grab the sugar, carefully spooning it into my cup. From the corner of my eye I could see Kid moving around the kitchen island, and then he was standing by me, and I could feel his breath move my hair slightly.

Turning my head up to face him, he showed me a gentle smile, right before bending down and placing a soft kiss on my forehead.

"I'll see you tonight."

And then he walked off.
