Imagine my surprise when I get a call from Archer Scott at 11 pm about a piss drunk Parker Wilson. With a screaming Will Griffin in the background. I'm not even exaggerating. This is exactly what happened.
"What? Archer slow down, I can't understand you!" I said.
It was true. I really couldn't understand a single word Archer Scott was saying. He was mumbling his words, then yelling, Will was screaming in the background. It was chaotic. The only words I did hear? The words were piss drunk, Will, and Parker. I repeat; piss drunk, Will, and Parker.
I love my life.
If you couldn't tell, that was sarcasm.
I don't know how Archer thought it was acceptable to call me at eleven at night about this situation that I obviously couldn't handle!
"Hattan, can we come over?" Archer asks.
That's what he says. He actually asks me if they can come over. Is this some type of joke? MTV crew, you can come out now! The prank has been caught!
I blink. "I don't think stand up comedy is your forte, Arch."
Archer barks out a laugh. Yes, actual laughage! "I'm not trying to be a comedian, Hattan. I'm serious. Parker is piss drunk and Will is having a panic attack."
"Just tell the MTV crew to stop filming. This is obviously a prank because no one in their right of mind would think my father would allow drunks over at eleven at night," I said. "Oh, and did I mention it's eleven at night?"
Archer laughs again and I almost smile at the sound of it. Archer has this really nice kind of raspy laugh that usually makes me smile. Or even laugh with him. But right now I needed to remember that I was pissed at him.
"You're funny, Hattan," He tells me.
"You're crazy, Arch."
After another chuckle, Archer gets serious again. "Seriously, Hattan. I really need to get aspirin and water for these idiots. But if I go to Safeway to get it, I can't bring drunks in with me. And I don't entirely trust them to be in a car alone."
I start to soften on him. "Okay, I understand. But my dad will not understand if I let drunk boys into my house so late into the night!"
"Then sneak us in."
"I take retract my recent statement. You make a great comedian, Archer."
"I'm driving my dad's truck tonight and there's a ladder in the back. I can use it to climb up your window."
I take my phone away from my ear, stare at it with my jaw unhinged, stutter soundlessly before returning the phone to my ear. "You're crazy."
"It'll only take twenty minutes, tops!" Archer protests. "And I'll park the truck a few houses away from yours. Your dad will never know."
"Let's say hypothetically that I agree to go with your crazy plan. How would Will and Parker climb up a ladder drunk?" I question.
"They'll be fine. Just say yes, Manhattan. Please."
"Yes."
So that's how I found myself helping three boys into my bedroom window close to midnight.
"Cute room, Manhattan," Will slurs, stumbling into my room.
I smile at him but my smile quickly drops when I remember he's drunk. Will's legs seem to fall out from beneath. I grip his arm and guide him to my bed. He grins lazily at me before his eyes roll to the back of his head and he falls back onto my bed.
