Rayla used her hands to signal that I go out from the other side of the rock. I nodded and and went around the other side, we quietly made our way over to another rock, but Sol Regem's head turned in our direction. We stopped moving entirely, silently praying that he would just assume it had been nothing. Sol Regem turned his head away, giving us the sign that we were okay to move forward again.
We stopped once we reached another rock that would provide suitable cover for us. The wind started to blow against us, which worked well in our favor considering we were trying to hide from his sense of smell. Rayla used a few more hand movements to show that she would go first and then I would follow after her. She climbed over the rock and quietly jumped across, trying not to fall over from the strength of the wind. When she made it across, she checked to make sure Sol Regem wasn't paying any attention to the direction we were in before gesturing for me to make my way over.
I walked out from the safety of being behind the rock and quietly but swiftly made my way across. About halfway through, I accidentally tripped and just barely managed to catch myself. My whole body seemed to freeze as Sol Regem turned his head towards us. He quickly seemed to brush it off as nothing, but he also looked to be on higher alert now. Rayla turned towards us and quickly gestured to continue.
As if things couldn't get any worse, Zym got scared and let out a loud whine as he tried to fly out of my arms. I almost fell over, but Zym took that chance to run. I tried to follow him, but Rayla grabbed me and brought me over to where she had been standing. She placed her hand over my mouth as Sol Regem leaned his head dangerously close to where we were. Zym let out a yelp and that seemed to grab Sol Regem's attention. Rayla let go of me and grabbed a small rock, she tossed it over in the other direction to create a distraction. Sol Regem bought the distraction and walked over to where Rayla threw the rock. We quickly gestured for Zym to come over to us. He looked hesitant, but tried to fly his way over to us.
Sol Regem heard him and quickly turned around, letting out a loud roar. Zym fell helplessly to the ground knowing he had gotten caught. The large white scales on Sol Regem's throat let out a bright orange glow as he lifted his head up. We quickly ran out from behind the safety of the rock, I scooped Zym up into my arms as we continued to run. Sol Regem let out a long blast of fire towards us, Rayla quickly pulled us over to the side as it barely missed us. We fell to the ground, I let out a nervous laugh of relief as I sat up, seeing I was still alive.
"What now?" I asked looking over at Rayla. We sat down to try and think of another plan.
"Should we just run for it?" Rayla quickly shook her head.
"We'll never make it. He'll just bite us in half or slam us with his tail."
"So, sneaking is out, running is out, fighting is out. What's left?"
"Burning to death?"
"Definitely out." I spoke with a sigh. Rayla looked back over to where Sol Regem was. "Looks like it's down to my least favorite course of action. Reason." Rayla got up and walked out from the safety of the rock. I carefully peeked over to watch, when Rayla spoke she made her voice loud and clear.
"Mighty Sol Regem, I am Rayla of the Moonshadow elves." She bowed down towards the former kings of the dragons. He leaned his head closer and sniffed, taking in her scent to make sure she had been telling the truth.
"What are you doing?" His voice was loud and mighty.
"Uh... I am bowing, great dragon." Sol Regem lifted his head up as if taking the name with great pride.
"No. I mean, why are you here." He spoke lowering his head down again. Rayla stood up.
"We have been traveling in the human kingdoms on the business of Zubeia, the Dragon Queen. We humbly ask your permission to cross back into Xadia."
