"Now you're sounding like Lujanne." I opened my mouth to thank her, but quickly stopped myself to contemplate if that was a good or bad thing. Rayla seemed to read my thoughts. "That wasn't a compliment." She crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes at me.
"Here's the idea. I can use Aspiro to blow my scent away to a different place. Like ventriloquism!" When I looked over to Rayla, she had her face in her hand. "Okay, not like ventriloquism?" Rayla looked up at me. "It's a stupid idea." She said bluntly. "But there might be something to it." I quietly cheered to myself.
"Time is up!" Sol Regem roared, smashing a rock with his tail.
"Give me your scarf!" (Zaira has a scarf now, deal with it.) Rayla whisper-yelled. "If I wear it, I'll smell like you, and I'll draw his fire. Once he uses his blast, you and Zym make a run for it while I keep him busy." She explained. "This is the worst idea you've ever had. He's going to reduce you to ashes." Sol Regem let out another roar. "No, he won't! I'm faster than him. And besides, it's the only chance we've got."
I reluctantly pulled off my scarf, almost gagging when I felt part of it damp with sweat. I handed it to Rayla, she grabbed it and took a few sniffs. She quickly drew her head back and held the scarf away from her as she gagged and coughed from the smell. I felt a smug smirk form on my face. I ran my fingers through my hair. "Its amazing, right?" She casted me and unamused glare and she put the scarf around her neck.
I walked over and helped her adjust the scarf properly, my hands traveled further up the scarf for a moment, I glanced up and made eye contact with Rayla. My heart gave a small flutter, but I quickly backed up and placed my hand on the back of my neck, Rayla grabbed her arm awkwardly. Sol Regem let out a loud roar as he found us. Rayla quickly backed away, the plan started working as Sol Regem started to follow her.
Once Sol Regem had his back turned, I instantly ran. I ran as far as I could until I reached a suitable rock that could provided cover for me and Zym. I leaned back against the rock, quickly catching my breath. My attention diverted as I saw Sol Regem spew out fire, I thought for a moment he had already gotten Rayla, but I then saw her the arch next to me. I waved over to her and saw her shoulders relax.
Rocks started to tumble from the ceiling above Rayla, I stepped forward and tried to call out her name, but heard nothing come out as my brain processed that Sol Regem would hear I did.
I silently thanked whatever god was up there when I saw Rayla push herself up out of a few of the rocks. She was still stuck and struggled to push a larger rock out of the way. I started running over to help her, but she quickly waved her hands in front of her and then pointed to where Sol Regem was. The dragon roared and I quickly got the message and ran back to the rock that had been hiding me and Zym. I looked around for some kind of solution to help Rayla as Sol Regem made his way towards her.
My eyes landed on a large arch, an arch that could be big enough to trap Sol Regem. I glanced back to Rayla who gave me a desperate look that made me quickly decide the idea was worth a shot. I felt Zym sink closer to me as he saw Sol Regem make his way closer to the defenseless Rayla.
I tried to mimic her grabbing the scarf off of her neck. "Throw it." I whispered, as if she would be able to hear me. Rayla gave me a confused look, before Sol Regem had found where she was trapped. He roared loudly in her face, she looked back to me. I drew the Aspiro rune into the air and then once again mimicked her throwing the scarf.
Rayla got the message and then threw the scarf, Sol Regem paused mid-roar and turned to where the scarf was thrown. "Aspiro." I whispered before sending out a large gust of wind to carry the scarf away from Rayla and towards the arch. I used my hands to turn the wind and make the scarf blow through the arch. Sol Regem had perfectly fallen into the trap, he had gotten his head stuck in the arch.
I ran over to where Rayla was and helped her out of all the large rocks and stones. "That was amazing! Too close, but amazing." I said with a smile. Rayla rubbed something off her arms. "Relax. I'm only slightly singed. Good thinking with Aspiro." She praised. I was about to reply, but a loud and angry roar from Sol Regem interrupted me.
"That arch isn't going to hold him forever. Let's get out of here before "too close" becomes "too late."" I nodded and ran after her. I was still in shock by how we had actually managed to do that. I would've expected up to be burnt to a crisp by now.
Rayla leaned down to where my scarf was now laying on the ground, she picked it up and put it around her neck. "Thanks for letting me borrow this. I think it's good luck." She commented before continuing to run again. Hopefully I'd get that scarf back soon.
I swear you guys always make my day whenever I see your comments, they make me want to put out a new chapter everyday (but sadly can't because I don't have the energy or a long enough attention span-) You're all amazing, stay safe <3
