"No."

"Does anybody know?"

"You, me, and Larisa."

"How is he? We really haven't talked that much about it. I've been super busy and he avoids any and all questions about it."

He laughs, "I think he's nervous. He really wanted you to be here."

"I knew I needed to come out once he told me that."

"He doesn't expect it." I feel my watch buzz. I look at my phone.

Christian: Home yet? It's about to start
Me: Just got home. Turning it on now. Call me when you get the chance after everything

"He completely thinks I'm in Milwaukee."

"He's pretty easy to surprise."

"So who's all there?"

"My family, some of the guys that live out here, his closest grade school friends, his mom, dad, stepdad, and brothers."

I let out a breath, "Okay."

"What?"

"I knew his mom would be there I just forgot."

"Why? Do you have a problem with her? She's quite literally the nicest person I've ever met."

"Well, she didn't give me a great first impression when you two had that cookout after he got hurt."

"Really? I saw you talking. It looked fine."

"I hide my emotions really well."

"So what's the deal?"

"Christian told her some things about us and she didn't get the whole story and then accused me of some things that aren't true."

"Like what?"

I look at him, "You don't know? I figured he had told you."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"It's a lot," I admit.

"We have forty minutes in the car together."

I sigh, "Did you know he was talking to me?"

"He had mentioned it."

"At the beginning of the season, was he acting a little weird? Wanted to get out of the clubhouse fast or anything like that?"

"I guess so. Why?"

"You can't say anything. What is said in this car, stays in this car."

He holds his pinky out. I laugh but hold mine out as well. I sigh again, "The day after Opening Day, I went to work and about halfway through my shift, I felt like shit. I collapsed in pain. Later I found out I was miscarrying."

"It was Christian's?"

"Yes."

"Hold on. You guys were together before all that?"

"No. We were strictly physical, nothing more. He had helped out for a week and then left for a week. He came back the following week and I flipped out and it wasn't pretty. Anyways, he told his mom about the miscarriage and pregnancy. I guess she took it as I was pregnant and hid it from him. So she asked me at the cookout why I thought it was a good idea to not tell Christian about the pregnancy."

"Alecia said that?"

"Unless she has a twin."

"No, no twin. Wow, I cannot believe that."

"Yeah, so I firmly believe she doesn't like me and I got an extremely bad first impression of her."

"I'd say so. What did Christian say?"
