Bringing Christian a tray with our dinner on it, I set it on the couch so he could reach it. "Need anything?" I ask.

"No."

He flips through channels, "How do people do this?"

"Do what?"

"Sit on the couch and do nothing all day. I'm two days in and I'm over it."

I grab my food and our waters before sitting with him on the couch. Thankfully, his mom took Amalia to the zoo today. Lord knows what else they did. She spoils her anytime she gets to see her which isn't often during the season.

He switches to Netflix and makes me pick a movie. I turn on a movie. He brushes his hair off his forehead. "Can I shower tonight?"

"Yeah."

Christian had back surgery two days ago. He's out for the season. He's pretty bummed but it needed to happen to preserve his career.

He finishes his dinner. "Do you want more?"

"No. Thank you. It was really good."

I take his tray and set it on the coffee table. He puts his arm around my back. I move closer to him, "How are you feeling?"

He shrugs, "Fine. It doesn't hurt. There's not a lot of pressure but it's a little uncomfortable."

"It's probably just pain from the damaged tissue."

He rubs my side, "Can you wash my hair?"

"Yeah. You'll probably just need to rinse off and I can wash your hair in the sink."

He pushes his fingers into my stomach to get our baby to move around. I watch him smile as our baby returns the favor and kicks me pretty hard. "I'll never get over that."

"It's pretty cool."

He lets me snuggle up to him. It's been a while since it's been just us at home. It's nice to have the house to ourselves for the day. He kisses me, "I love you. Thank you for everything the past couple of days."

"I don't mind. I love you too."

"Does that hurt?" I ask as I palpate around his incision.

"No."

"Here?"

"No."

"Good."

I read the directions they gave us on how to change out the dressing. Since it's along his spinal cord, we can't risk any sort of infection from getting in. So we have to take any sort of precautions possible.

I change out my gloves, snapping them on my wrists. I can feel the smile growing on my face. I missed that sound. It's such a niche sound but I miss it.

"I don't know if I've ever seen someone so excited to put on gloves before," he tells me, staring through the mirror at me.

I glance at him and smile, "Leave me alone."

I put the large bandaid over the layer of gauze. I secure the bandaid with tape. I make sure it's sticky. I clean up the scraps on the counter. "Let me get a blanket or something so you can lie comfortably on the counter."

I grab a couple of towels and a blanket for him. I help him lay back on the counter. I tuck a towel under his neck.

I wash his hair quickly so he's not on his back for too long. He sits up with a towel around his neck. "Thank you."
