You went over to your desk, picking up the tall lit candle as you took a deep breath.
"There's still time before dawn. I can use this stormy night to restart my investigation."
Then..I should make my way to the corridor first.
You decided on visiting the long hall of statues first. Making your way quietly out of your door, you sighed sharply.
You entered the hall, looking around immediately at the statues made of stone. As you walked the hall slowly, memories of someone shouting filled your head.
"No! Who set it off!?"
"Get the children out!"
" You have to run Y/N!"
"Don't be afraid, we will meet again.."
You closed your eyes gently, trying to recall where these voices were coming from, before speaking quietly to yourself. "There doesn't seem to be anything worth investigating here. Maybe I should try the living room? Though, Mrs Plinius's room is right by it, its best if i don't alarm her." You sighed as you turned around, still trying to pinpoint where the voices were coming from. You slipped out from behind the door, and made your way into the living room.
Slipping into the room, you looked around immediately. "This is the only place I haven't investigated." You made your way across the room, looking at every painting on the wall. You attempted to twist the candle atop the fireplace once again, but it failed to move this time. You made your way towards the end of the room, though just as you were about to look up at the painting on the back wall. The floor..It sounded off. You stepped away from the area, and then stepped back to confirm your suspicions. Underneath that spot was hollow. You kneeled down, picking up the edge of the carpet and flicking it up to that it revealed a small door, the tiles darker then the actual floor. The door opened on its own, revealing a ladder that led to a dark room. You sighed sharply once more as you readied yourself to climb down. "What exactly have I missed.."
You climbed down the ladder, your shoes hitting a hard stone platform. You looked around the room, but could just barely make anything out. You stepped down a small set of stairs before continuing your observations. "Ventilation wise, the air is quite clean here. Someone must have accessed this place quite frequently." You moved your candle around, hoping to light the room up. You came across two tables and a chair with restraints, the table sat parallel to each other. Though one was an operating table with restraints as well, and the other was an ordinary table with bottles and papers scattered over it. There was a medicine cabinet behind the table, and you made your way toward it slowly. Once you reached the cabinet, you set your candle down on the small shelf attached to it, and opened the cabinets doors.
The first bottle that caught your mind had a strange symbol on its label. You carefully slid it out of the cabinet, and carefully popped open the cork. You turned the bottle, admiring the symbol on the label, before putting the cork back in and slipping the bottle back onto the cabinets shelf. A paper was hanging on the inside wall of the door, and you gently took it off, tearing the top of the page slightly. It was full of symbols and words you didn't quite understand. You tilted your head as you sighed, placing the paper on the nearest surface before turning your attention back to the bottles. A thought entered your mind as you saw a raw scurry across the floor. "Maybe i could test them."
You slipped a petri dish from the shelf, along with the first bottle you picked up. You carefully placed the dish onto the floor, and poured a little of the contents into it. Sure enough, a rat came running over toward the dish, smelling it intensely before lapping a bit of it up. You watched as the rat immediately began stumbling around, seeming as if it were falling asleep. "Looks like a psychedelic drug.." You hummed in curiosity as you held the bottle up to you, and wafted some of it toward your nose. As soon as you breathed in, you immediately felt light-headed and began stumbling slightly. You shook yourself awake, and put the cork back in the bottle before returning it to the shelf. The next bottle that caught your eye, you slid off the shelf as well as another petri dish. You put the next petri dish next to the other one, and much like last time, you poured a little of the bottles contents into the dish. You watched as the same rat came up to the dish, sniffing it intensely once again before lapping some of it up. It immediately began running around, jumping at almost every turn before it flopped onto its back and scurried its feet. You hummed in wonder once again as you looked sown at the bottle. The label read; The Sirens Song. It does looked like a terrified sailor entrapped by sirens. You wafted the air from the bottle towards your nose once more, and as soon as you breathed in, you felt light-headed once again. Though this time, you saw visions of the ghost from earlier, and a strange man. You gasped slightly, stepping back as you calmed yourself. "Is this why we experienced hallucinations at the racecourse?"
You put the cork back into the bottle and returned it to the shelf. The final bottle that caught your eye was skinnier then the others, though still held a good amount of liquid inside. You slid it off the shelf, along with a third petri dish. You carefully popped the cork before pouring a little bit of its contents into the dish. The rat, once again rna towards the dish, sniffing it intensely before lapping some of it up. The first sip it had though, caused it to run away. You tilted your head softly as you examined the bottle, though once you read the label to yourself, you heard the scurrying of little feet coming back toward the dish. You looked over at the rat. who came back for a second sip. "What's it doing back here?" You asked yourself before the rat ran away once more. Although this time..A shadow of someone..moved away from the light.
