"What do you want now, Wally?" You asked in indignation. He'd just taken you all the way back Home. Obviously it wasn't very far from Frank's house, but you still didn't appreciate him dragging you away.
"Do you like it here?" He simply asked as the bright front door swung open without assistance.
"What do you think?" You answered, rolling your eyes in irritation. His expression didn't falter, but it felt different. His smile was a barely apparent ghost of what it used to be, and his eyes... his eyes... they were sorrowful and longing. You'd never know how he managed to convey those incredibly vivid scenes all through his dark pupils. He was unhappy when he shouldn't be. His eyes somehow overrode the artificial emotions he'd been trying to keep them underneath. And his feelings were always so intoxicatingly contagious. It was as if he had finally uttered the truth of this reality—when all he partook in was asking you a question—because of the look he gave you. His eyes glossed over, but no tears dared to escape their clutches. In the flood of confusion, his grip on your hand loosened as well. He silently pleaded for a genuine response, and you obliged.
"I j-just want to go home," your hoarse voice barely managed the painful confession. You broke much faster than him and quickly ended up a sobbing mess.
Out of the blue though, he grinned and snickered. "But you are home, neighbor! Ha, ha, ha!" He ignored your horrid state; quickly composing himself. Wally grabbed your hand and took you straight to the living room couch. Not batting an eye at your bewildered—and somewhat offended—demeanor. The soft, red, plush piece of furniture failed to ease your nerves, and the claustrophobic sense the confined space gave you didn't aid in your favor. "Ha, ha, ha, we're going to have so much fun together, neighbor. Just you wait and see!" He went along rambling about all the wonderful things you'd do in the future at a pace much quicker than his usual speech. It all felt so unhinged compared to his usual tone.
But none of that mattered to you. You couldn't even look him in the eyes as your tears quickly dried. He doesn't care, does he? You didn't know what you expected. It felt like you had a silent heart to heart. You'd never been so emotional about leaving, but he only cared about you staying here. He only cared about himself. He didn't care about you, just the insatiable hunger for attention. The awakening gave you an unsettling and painful feeling. One that made you quite nauseous as well.
"No, no, no, no," the painful whimpers weren't heard by a single soul and your tears erupted once again.
"N̵̜̰̼̓̋̆̈̆͝o̴̧̳̳̱̭̓͒̃̈́͋͘͝-̶̪͕̃̄͐̆͠ͅn̷̝̤͉̖̟͎͔̋̏̌͝ò̷̗̤̇̃͐͌͛̒̂,̶͔̤̭͇̬͂̊͊̅̓̀̋͘̚͜͝ ̴̼̤̠̊͊̍̅̇̚n̸̢̖͇͙͌͂o̷̧̲̦̐͐́̇̚t̸̯̒̆ ̶̺͊͋͑̂̚a̷͕̠̺̺̘̼̾̈́̕g̴̨̛̱͖͙̥̀̾̆̓͌͆̏̚͜͝ầ̷̹̣̔̉ȋ̶͈̦̟n̸̡͂̈̏̓̉̅̆͗͛͆." Wally held his head trying to grasp onto control once again. Pathetic. What was that? That wasn't you. That-who was in your head?! "Please don't cry, darling."
You felt Wally's hand on your shoulder, the other coming to wrap itself around you. He sounded so different from when he was speaking before. It was strange how he spoke so much less happily, but seemed so much more genuine. This voice felt calming, but concerned and caring all the same. The other... it was manipulating your emotions and pushing you aside. You definitely liked this one better.
You collapsed onto his chest in another heaping mess of tears. He didn't mind this time though, toying with your locks as he gently held onto you. At this point you'd probably been reduced to a pitiful remnant of your former self, but you tried to keep your thoughts away from that. The mood felt sad and dreary, but somehow, comfortable. Actually it was the most comfortably close to reality you'd ever gotten in the neighborhood. "Wally, I d-don't know what to do anymore..."
"Me neither, darling, but the path to betterment is twisted and dark. You'll know what to do someday, but I'm afraid that if things do turn out alright, that I won't be with you."
His cryptic response didn't aid in easing your nerves, just evoking more questions. "W-why? Am I g-going to be stuck here for-forever? Why won't you be with me if everything turns out okay?"
"I'm afraid I don't have an answer to your first question yet, but if fate decides that you'll end up living your best life... there's no reality where I live it by your side." You couldn't tell, but a tear of his own somehow managed to escape the mysterious confines of his dark eyes.
He knows what he did to get this far, and he'll pay the price if you're to be spared.
