Rodrick felt a bit upset the next day after his encounter with Y/N at the mall. Why did she ignore him? Did he do something wrong? Maybe she thought he was a bit weird for shopping at Spencers? Or maybe she knew what was at the back of the store...
He tried to ignore it as best as he could. Besides, why did he care what Y/N thought of him?
When he got downstairs, he didn't bother to join his family for breakfast, he gave them all a quick goodbye, hopped in his van and left.
He drove wildly down the street, taking sharp corners and running over every curb all the while banging his fists on the wheel to the beat of his favourite metal and rock songs.
Suddenly his phone went off, the chime silenced his loud music for a moment. He looked down at his phone to see it was from Y/N. Still driving like a mad man, he picked up his phone and read her text.Y/N: Hey, could you pick me up? My mom went to work early and I need a ride.
Rodrick: 👍He threw his phone onto the passenger's seat and returned his attention the road. His eyes bulged at what he saw. Right before him, crossing the road was an elderly woman. He slammed on the breaks but was too late. He killed her.
(Jkkkkkkkkkk)
He threw his phone onto the passenger's seat and took a sharp turn down the street where Y/N lived. When he pulled up to her house, he saw her sitting on her front porch, reading an old book with her earbuds in. She was so intensely engaged with the story she didn't even realize Rodrick was parked in her parking lot. She looked so calm, so invested. A dark thought crossed his mind and he chuckled. He pounded his hand on the horn pad of the wheel, causing it to let out a loud honk. He bit back a grin as Y/N jumped out of her skin. She looked up to see Rodrick in his van, laughing at her. Y/N threw her things into her bag and made her way over to the van. She opened the door and was about to sit on the passenger seat when something caught her eye. She picked it up and handed it to Rodrick before sitting down and shutting the door. It was his phone.
"Here you go, dickhead," she said.
He reached for it, his fingers delicately brushing against her soft skin. He shook the thought out of his head and shoved his phone into his jeans pocket. "I got you good," he sang as he pulled out of her driveway.
"I know." She turned to him, a deviant glint in her eye. "I'll get you back."
"Nothing will compare to that," he said. "You were scared shitless."
Y/N shook her head and set the old book she was reading down on the console in between them. Rodrick glimpsed the title. Little Women. He snorted. "What's that about?"
"Four sisters trying to follow their dreams," she replied. "Your mom gave it to me. It's a good book."
He nodded and took a turn, slowly this time.
"Is your band coming over today?" she asked.
"No, I don't think so," Rodrick replied. "Which means you're going to bore me to death with school work."
Y/N giggled. "How about this: you and I can study for half an hour and then go out and do something."
"If Mom asks I'll tell her there wasn't much work we had to do," said Rodrick.
"Even though that's the complete opposite of the truth," Y/N said. "But no matter, I think they give out too much."
"Especially this early in the year," Rodrick agreed.
When they got to school, they immediately went to their shared class. Rodrick tried to convince Y/N he needed to use the restroom before he went to class but she seen right through his lie and ushered him into class. She took a seat in the back row and Rodrick sat in the seat in front of her.
All throughout class Rodrick kept passing Y/N crude doodles of their biology teacher. Drawings of which she couldn't help but laugh at.
When biology class was over, the pair of them went their separate ways to their separate classes.
At lunch, Rodrick sat with his band mates at their pretty much designated table. They shared ideas for new songs and Ben asked Rodrick if he wanted to hang out after school. "We could go to the mall again."
"Sorry, dude, I can't. Y/N's tutoring me and after that we were going to hang out," said Rodrick.
"Why don't we all hang out?" Ben suggested.
"Oh sure, I'll have to ask her first," he replied. Ben was Rodrick's best friend. He was closer to him than anybody else in the band and yet, for some reason part of him didn't want Ben to tag along with him and Y/N.
"There she is now," Ben said. "Go on. Ask her."
Rodrick looked up from his cafeteria food to see Y/N walking over to an empty table to eat her lunch. "I don't want to bother her or anything—"
Ben pulled Rodrick's shirt collar, causing him to get up. He walked over to Y/N and relaxed when he saw her smile at him.
"Hey, doofus," she said. "What's on your mind?"
"So you know how we're hanging out right?" He drew circles on the table top with his finger. "Would it be okay if Ben came with us?"
"Yeah, sure," Y/N replied, sipping on a juice box.
"Okay, cool," Rodrick mumbled. He kind of hoped maybe she would say no. Maybe if her smile faltered a bit or if she showed the tiniest bit of disinterest, he may have felt better. He truly only wanted to hang out with her. Why?
"Hey, guys," Ben said, seating himself beside Rodrick. "Hey, Y/N, what do you think of the band?"
"It's great!" she replied a bit too loudly as if hiding a different emotion she felt. "You definitely have to invite me to every show."
"We will," Ben said. "So, Y/N, where are we going tonight?"
Y/N shrugged. "I mean, I was there yesterday but we could go to the mall."
Ben smacked Rodrick's arm playfully. "Remember what we saw in Spencer's?"
Rodrick nodded, his face burning up.
"Y/N, have you ever been to the back of Spencer's?" Ben asked.
Rodrick gulped and silently begged Ben to shut up.
"No," Y/N shook her head. "Why?"
"Well they have—"
Rodrick clasped his hand against Ben's mouth to get him to stop talking.
"You'll just have to see for yourself," Rodrick laughed. He leaned into Ben's ear and whispered, "We are not taking her there."
Ben nodded and Rodrick took away his hand. Y/N eyed the pair of them sceptically before returning her attention to her lunch.
Rodrick sighed. He hated to think like this but, Ben was going to get in the way of things.
