After lunch I go to the common room. I just sit and watch the flames. In a way, the sparks the wood makes calms me. I'm placed back to last night where Draco sat beside me, his defences down for a sliver of a moment. I wish I could grab onto that memory and keep it between my hands. Watch every moment unfold and put it on repeat until I've fully lived the moment through.
The sound comes from down the hall. A soft whisper drifting through the walls like a mouse. It's calling my name, almost in a urgent manner. As foolish as it may seem, I fallow this voice because I know exactly what this is.
It's a spell that the professors use to summon the students in secrecy. I'm assuming it's a request for me to tutor a student or some ordeal.
The voice starts leading me to the courtyard and onto the field. I start to walk slower as the voice becomes more clearer and louder. I don't see a professor for miles. This is sort of a surreal experience. I usually just watch people on the field, I never make any attempt to be out here. I feel sort of exposes in this grand field.
I reach the centre of the field and the voice vanishes. That's strange. That usually means that I've reached the person but I see no one.
"You came" , a voice says from behind me.
I spin around. It's the same Ravenclaw guy from earlier. Steven.
"I thought it was a professor", I distantly say. "How do you even know this spell?"
"That doesn't matter" He smiles and it's kind, warm. There's no darkness hidden beneath it. I don't feel panicked with him. I know him. He's kind. A part of me relaxes a bit.
"Okay." I say ," Although what does matter is why you led me out here in the middle of no where." I gesture around us ," Literally."
The sweet smile stays on his face. "I want to ask you something."
My mind automatically jumps to all the people I might have contact with that he might want to get in touch with, or if he wants study gudes perhaps.
"What?" I prepare myself for being used again for something.
"Look, I know there's a lot of guys piling up to ask you this-"
I cut him off mid sentence" No there's not." I retort.
Steven shakes his head slightly asif in disbelief then he closes the gap between our bodies. I look up at him, surprised at the sudden movement. I don't feel threatened or on edge. I don't feel a spark of electricity spiking through my veins like with Draco, I feel calm. He doesn't strike me as someone who would just force himself onto me.
"What are you doing?" I ask.
He takes my hand and looks down at it like it's a delicate rose, without any throns. He looks at my hand like it's something extraordinary.
"Would you take it into consideration that I might be able to take you to the dance?" He asks hopeful. Not like he knows that I'll say yes, he asks it in a way in which he fears that I might say no.
I want to say no because I'm not going as I've made myself abundantly clear. Then there's a part of me that imagines me feeling calm and not on edge between his arms. That tiny part of me considers the idea and wants to say yes to him. He is a good guy, what's not to like?
Then, out of the corner of my eye I see Draco, his friend around him. A smirk plastered on his face. He abruptly stops in the middle of his sentence and stares, almost glares out onto the field at me and Steven.
