Hello, class!" he greeted cheerfully. "As you can see, we have a new student, Miss Hermione Granger." He turned his attention to her, his face lighting up with recognition. "Ah, I see you have made friends with our young Mr. Riddle. He is top in Potions and has volunteered to tutor you twice a week so you can catch up!"
Hermione choked on air. "Sir I dont think that's nece..." Slughorn continued, inturrupting her.
"Right, so today is quite a hard practical lesson." He began writing three potions on the board. "You will brew one of the three potions written on the board. The last one is the hardest, so I would recommend trying the first two. We learned the steps last lesson. Oh, Miss Granger, feel free to sit out and watch if you need."
Lucky for Hermione, she was well-versed in all three potions. To prove that she didn't need to "sit out and watch," she decided to go for the most challenging of the three – the Drought of Peace. Confidence surged within her as she gathered the ingredients and set up her cauldron.
As the class began brewing, Hermione worked diligently, her mind focused on the delicate steps and precise measurements required for the advanced potion. Tom Riddle who was, of course doing the same potion, cast occasional glances in her direction. He whispered to her when they both got up to get ingredients, "just so you know Granger, I am top in potions and I'll be a fine tutor". She glared at him. I'll show him, top in potions my ass
As the lesson progressed, Hermione's expertise in potion-making became apparent. Slughorn, pleased with her progress, complimented her brewing skills. But she didn't want compliments, she wanted to wipe that smug look off riddles face. She worked hard, remembering the notes from the half blood princes book. It's technically not cheating in this time... is it? Oh well
By the end of the lesson Hermione's hair was, believe it or not, messier then it was at the start. She stared down at her brew evidently pleased. As Slughorn walked around the class, he inspected and graded everyone's potions starting with the back table.
As he got to the front he inspected Toms potion. "Oh you never fail to impress me Tommy!!" he beamed. Riddle flinched at the nickname, much to Hermione's amusement. "Well done Tommy" she whispered smirking at him. He rolled his eyes and said aloud "Oh so we are on first name basis now Her-my-oh-knee" he said emphasising every syllable. She rolled her eyes before looking at old sluggy who was staring open mouthed at her potion.
"This is... this is almost... the BEST draught of peace I have ever seen. Its been brewed better then I can do it myself. You are quite extraordinary at potions Miss Granger. My my I think you have the best potion in the class. A* for you and tom.. A!! Well done you two!! Class dismissed"
WHAT. THE. FUCK granger got higher... THEN ME?!?? Oh she'll pay for this. Tom thought. And she's He smirked, Granger is just another girl, I know just how to get her to open up.
