Tom's coldness was unbearable. He hadn't truly spoken to Hermione in over a week, though he remained physically present. He would sit beside her in the library, his hand brushing hers, but when she tried to speak, his responses were curt, dismissive.
Hermione's heart ached. The Tom she had grown close to—the one who whispered secrets into her ear and laughed in that rare, unguarded way—seemed to have vanished.
One evening, she could no longer stand the silence. "Why are you doing this?" she asked, her voice trembling. Tom didn't look up from his book. "Doing what?"
"You know what I mean," she snapped. "You seemed so determined to find out everything last week and now you.. You're avoiding me. Acting like I don't exist. If you hate me, just say it!"
His jaw tightened, but he said nothing.
"Fine," she whispered, tears spilling down her cheeks. "I'll leave you alone." She fled before he could see her break down completely
