Prem cursed under his breath as he strode through the narrow paths in his neighbourhood. It was just his luck, his scooter broke down today. With a food carrier in one hand and the phone in the other, Prem messaged his boyfriend, informing him about the unfortunate situation. When the phone was safe back in his pocket, he hurriedly walked into the alley, which he often used as a shortcut. The small passage seemed different, but Prem didn't have time to investigate, as he was late to meet Ten. He was almost at the end when he heard a growl. The low sound sent shivers down his spine. His body reacted independently, pushing him forward and towards the main road. He didn't get far, though. Suddenly the medium-sized dog appeared in front of him, blocking his way. Prem stopped abruptly, panicking when the stray crept closer.
The dog's dirty fur, piercing eyes and yellowish fangs made him step back.
"Good, boy." Prem tried to coax the angry-looking animal, but it only irritated it more. The growls were louder, and the dog was closer. Prem was scared out of his wits. His shaky legs gave out and sent him to the ground. The lunch box flew from his hand, falling on the asphalt and spilling out all the food. The stray immediately jumped towards it and devoured the delicious treat happily.
Prem's eyes filled with tears. The lunch for his boyfriend he worked hard for was gone.
"Cook!" Ten's worried voice caught Prem's attention. He averted his eyes from the stray, searching for his tall boyfriend. Ten was already running towards him, skilfully passing the feeding animal. He kneeled before him, searching for any injury before he pulled him into the hug.
"Are you alright?" Ten asked.
"No. That stupid dog stole your lunch." Prem sniffled, hugging Ten back.
"It's okay. You can make me something else later. Let's go." Ten picked Prem up and strode out of the alley.
"You can put me down," Prem whispered, all red and flushed from Ten's affection.
"No, what if the dog wants to eat a dessert too?" Ten disagreed, tightening his hold on Prem.
"Doc!" Prem whined but didn't argue more. He felt safest in his boyfriend's arms, after all.
