I pulled back my quills as the mobian captain placed the supplies in the schooner.

I used another one of my gold earrings and half of Captain Shadow's doubloons to pay for the boat, and now he spent all his money on supplies.
Mostly just food and two guns and sword.

"Are you almost done? We need to get going or I'll loose the scent." I grumbled.

Mobians are always so slow...

"I'm moving, your highness." He groaned.

I rolled my eyes and leaned back in my seat.

"Alright, let's go." He said, removing the rope from the dock and jumping into the boat. He pulled up the anchor and then walked over to the sails, turning the steering bow.

Captain Shadow was an odd one to me. Even when we first met.

I dislike mobians, that was one thing for sure but he was certainly interesting.

He was a tall rugged hedgehog with charcoal black quills and red streaks. He had a tan muzzle and a slight goatee. He had an eyepatch on his right eye and always wore black and red and gold. I had watched his ship the night he came back to it and decided to follow it around when Scourge had taken control of it.

That's how I saved the captain, but also he saved my life so I owed him.

I was surprised that the captain had no romantic partner, he did seem like the rugged pirate type women would practically drool over.
Maybe Sally would like him...
I snapped out of my thoughts as the wind changed and we turned.

I jumped up and started removing my belt.

"What the devil are you doing?!?" He barked.

"Taking off my pants so I can swim!" I yelled back. "I can't track your ship from here on land!"

He sighed and motioned for me to continue what I was doing.
I removed my pants and then jumped into the water.
I felt the scales form on my legs and the dryness went away. My beautiful green tail had formed and I smiled, flipping up from the water in joy.

I loved to swim, I was the fastest siren I knew and swimming made me feel alive.
But I had to focus.

I sniffed on the wind and listened to the sounds  of the ocean.
Sirens had heightened senses, so I could track the Cursed Pearl with ease.

Then I got the scent.

I jumped up and grabbed onto the side of the ship.

Shadow jumped but then ran over, helping me into the boat. Once I flopped over into it, he placed a towel on my shoulders.

"I got the scent! Bring me the map!" I demanded.

He huffed and nodded, then brought over a map. I dried off my hand and took it from him, following the trail I had formed in my mind.

"There! They've stopped at....the ruby star peninsula..." I mumbled, reading the name off the map.

"Good we'll be there by tomorrow morning." He said, going back to the wheel and turning. And now we were out on the ocean.

I sighed and dragged myself over to a nice spot in the boat and curled up, hugging the towel around my shoulders.

"You know, you're gonna have to help me man this ship once you've dried off." Shadow said, from the wheel.

"I am a prince! I don't need to help run a ship!" I barked, sitting up.

"Well, not everyone is born with silver spoon in their mouths, so you'll have to help." Said Shadow.

"I will not! Besides...I don't know how to work ships. I never needed to sail because I can swim!"

"Well, now you're gonna learn!" Said Shadow, placing the wheel in one spot and walking over to me.

I hissed at him and he huffed.
He then scooped me up and carried me over to the wheel.
I did not like this.

"Put me down! I refuse to be treated like this!" I snarled.

"Too bad, you're gonna watch me steer while you dry off so you can do some steering while I take care of the sails." He said.

I spat and hissed and snarled curses at him in siren.

"Sorry don't understand siren, your highness." He chuckled, setting me down.

I grumbled and stared down at my tail as it slowly flaked away from drying.

That reminded me of something...

I stared at him as he turned the wheel and watched the compass, and I finally felt my legs form.

Then I yanked one of my scales off my disappearing tail.

I stood up and he looked over at me with a smirk.

"Ready to help out?"

I let out a few clicks of annoyance and held out the scale to him.

"Woah, what's this?" He asked.

"It's a siren scale. As long as you wear this around your neck you'll be immune to siren voices." I said.

"Oh, I thought that was just another myth." He said taking it and letting me take the wheel.

"Nope, now go put it on or something. Because I can use my voice as a weapon in battle." I said.

He nodded and walked off and then I started steering.

It was actually quite calming...and the ocean around the boat was quiet.

He came back over and the scale hung on his neck on a thin gold chain.

"How does it work? The melody of death?" He asked, leaning onto a barrel.

I sighed and looked out on the dark sea.

"We can use our voices normally, like a singer in a bar. But we can unlock our second vocal cord that allows us to hypnotize anyone into doing whatever we want. Most often to crash ships. Some colder sirens make crews turn on each other, some do it to seduce mobians, and some do it to simply have a mobian treat them like a friend. Sirens can't use our own voices against each other though, it's impossible. However...I've never really hypnotized any mobians before. I mean there was one or two but it's not a big thing I do." I spoke, calmly.

"Hm, interesting." He hummed.

Then it was quiet once more.

"Did you believe in sirens before we met, Captain?"

He was quiet for a moment.

"No. But I can't deny their existence now, can I?"
