"Nothing," she mumbled. She pulled out her own phone and started to tap at her screen.
Rodrick peered over her shoulder to see that she was texting his mother. "What are you doing?" he asked.
"Nothing," she replied.
He read over her message to see her asking his mom for his own baby pictures. "That's not fair," he said.
She turned to him and laughed. "You make no sense," she told him, shaking her head.
"I make perfect sense," said Rodrick before he placed his hand on top of hers. "Anyway, you and me are supposed to hang out."
"Oh, right," Y/N said as she stood up from her chair, causing Rodrick's hand to slip from hers.
He quickly stood up and placed Lee gently on the ground.
"Where are we going?" Y/N asked as she reached for Rodrick's hand.
He gave her hand a squeeze before he started to lead her out of the kitchen. "That's a surprise," he told her as they began making their way towards the entryway.
Lee followed after them, wagging her tail and running around them in circles.
"Can we bring Lee?" Y/N asked as she reached for her dog's leash.
Rodrick nodded and Y/N smiled. She bent down and clipped Lee's leash to her collar.
"Ready?" Rodrick asked as he placed his hand on the doorknob. Once Y/N stood up and nodded, he opened the door.
"Bye, Y/N! Bye, Rodrick!" Y/N's mother called from in the kitchen. "Love you!"
"Love you too!" Y/N and Rodrick said in sync.
"Have fun!" Scott shouted.
"We will," Y/N replied before she turned to Rodrick who held the door open and waved his hand, gesturing for her to go first.
She gave him an amused smile before she stepped outside with Lee. Once Rodrick closed the door, the two of them made their way to his van.
Before Y/N stopped by the passenger side, Rodrick scurried over and quickly opened the door.
"You know you don't have to do that all the time, right?" said Y/N as she hopped into the passenger seat with Lee.
"I kind of do," Rodrick replied with a shrug. He gave Y/N a smile before he closed her door and climbed into the driver's seat. Before he backed out of the driveway, he tapped a few buttons on the centre screen in his van, turning on his music. Once he found his band's song—or rather Y/N's song—he started to drive down the street.
Y/N and Lee looked out the window and watched all of the houses that lined their neighbourhood pass by in a blur.
"It's so beautiful," Y/N mumbled as her eyes wandered around at the cloudless sky and the flowers in bloom. It truly was a perfect day.
Rodrick glanced in her direction and nodded. "Yeah," he whispered. "Really beautiful." He studied her carefully, admiring how perfect she looked when the sun was shining on her.
When Y/N turned to face him, he quickly looked away, forcing his eyes to stay on the road.
Y/N smiled to herself before she looked back out the window and pointed things out to Lee.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at the mall. Rodrick turned to face Y/N as he unbuckled his seatbelt. "I'll be right back," he told her. He leaned forward to place a kiss on her forehead before he hopped out of the van.
