Lee watched him leave with a curious look on her face. Y/N smiled at her dog before lightly scratching behind her ears.
Once Rodrick came back a few minutes later, Lee started to happily bark. Y/N looked out the window to see Rodrick carrying a brown paper bag and a cup from Booster Juice. She smiled at him as he began to make his way over to the driver's seat.
When he hopped in, he placed the bag and the cup on the centre console in between them and buckled his seatbelt.
"Is that for me?" Y/N asked as she pointed to the Booster Juice cup.
"Of course it is," Rodrick replied. "I don't drink that crap."
Y/N laughed softly before she picked up the cup and took a sip. "Thank you, Rodrick."
"Anything for you, Y/N/N," he mumbled as he started the van.
"What's in there?" Y/N asked, prodding at the bag.
Rodrick glanced at where her finger was pointing before he started to drive out of the mall parking lot. "It's what we're having for dinner," he replied. "It's probably not as good as what your dad was cooking but I thought it would be nice. Plus, if you don't like it, I can get you something else."
Y/N peeked through the paper bag to see a packaged box from her favourite restaurant. She sighed blissfully when the aroma of her favourite dish invaded her lungs. She glanced at Rodrick and gave him a fond smile. "This is great. Thank you."
"Anything for you, love," he whispered. This time he didn't seem too shy to say it.
Ten minutes later, they arrived at the top of Gilman's Hill where Rodrick parked the van and unbuckled his seatbelt.
He turned to face Y/N before he started to take out the food containers from the paper bag. He set them down on the centre console before he tossed the bag into the back of his van, earning an unamused look from Y/N.
Rodrick held up his arms defensively. "What?" he asked.
Y/N shook her head before opening one of the boxes and giving a tiny bit of her food to Lee.
Y/N and Lee shared food, causing Lee to accidentally get some on her face. Y/N let out a laugh and gently started to rub the bit of food out of her dog's fur.
Rodrick watched her with a soft smile. How could she sit there, laughing and be so perfect? It was one of the few things he actually thought about. Y/N truly was perfect—in every way—but the reasoning to it was a mystery to Rodrick. He sometimes told himself that maybe meeting her and being with her was all just some long dream that he was in. Or perhaps he was in a coma. It only made sense since Y/N was the type of person that only existed in places like dreams.
Still, even if she did exist in dreams, that didn't explain how Rodrick dreamt of her every night. How could he have a dream within a dream? He tried not to dwell on it too much since he knew he would never discover the answer. He was fine with that however because he was content to just be next to Y/N, whether in a dream or not.
"Did you hear me?" Y/N asked, ripping him from his thoughts. He blinked rapidly before meeting her gaze.
He shook his head. "No. I'm sorry, Y/N/N," he said. "What were you saying?"
"I was just asking if you had anything planned tomorrow," said Y/N. "Tomorrow's my last day before I start my summer job. So, I wanted to know if you had anything planned with the band or—"
"No. I'm free," Rodrick interjected. "And if I wasn't, I'd make sure to cancel those plans for you."
Y/N smiled and Rodrick's heart fluttered. Her smile always made him fall in love with her all over again.
