One Day At A Time - Revised Edition

February soon blows away and March takes its place, giving everyone the first warm days of the year.

Things are going quite well for Ava and Lilly as they ease into the whole being-in-a-relationship thing.

The upcoming weekend is supposed to be warm and sunny and when Lilly saw this on her phone's weather app, it gave her an idea, an idea she pitched to Ava on the way home from school.

"You know how you said we should go on a road trip?"
"Yeah, I remember that." (Of course she remembers, pitching the idea was her way of trying to make a date!)
"Well, I saw something about really pretty hiking trails about a half hour away from here."

They have local hiking trails, trails that have been walked by Ava and her family a million times.

The fact that the trails are somewhat far away makes Ava light up. Lilly glances over at her, smiling.
"I thought we could make it a date: a road trip and cool trails for our first date. What do you think?"

Ava is beaming with excitement, reaching for Lilly's hand, which is on top of the center console, to hold it.

She loves the idea.
The loves the idea so very much!

She tells Lilly this and she sees the joyous glint in her eyes.

They pull into Ava's driveway a minute or two later and before she jumps out of the car, Ava gives Lilly a quick kiss on the cheek.

It's a new part of her routine, of their routine. It's a really small addition, but it's her way of saying, "I love you!" before they part ways for the day.

Neither of them have said it out loud yet, because it's an understood thing between them.

They love each other to the point where they don't have to say it out loud for it to be understood. They have loved each other since they were little; platonic love bled well into the romantic.

Lilly and Ava understand each other, that is how they show that they love each other.

Love like that is something that neither of them would ever thought they'd have.

Ava had seen couples in movies since she was a kid, but it never crossed her mind that she could have that herself, not until those few introspective days after the Christmas party.

There came a point where Lilly was about to give up on her feelings for Ava, try to move on, but then Ava felt the same way.
She didn't have to give up.

Now, both of them are in this state of euphoria, this state of being on top of the world.

They'll do whatever they can to stay on top the world together.
