word count: 1551Y/n was a pretty normal 15 year old girl. She didn't have a bad life or anything, she was just lonely. She's the oldest sibling in her family and has, in her parent's words "Always been the easy child that's so independent." She didn't know if she was just a naturally distant person or she just couldn't find anyone to be close with. Y/n didn't mind being alone but sometimes in the back of her mind she would think about it and wonder if she would ever find someone she could take comfort in.
8th period just ended and Y/n was walking to the locker room to change into her close for track practice after school. As she was walking one of the senior girls on the track team hit her with her shoulder when she was walking by. Y/n was used to this by now, the older girls have been giving her a hard time for a while because she's a freshman on varsity. She knows they're just being mean because she's younger and maybe they're jealous but it still hurts her feelings knowing she isn't accepted by her teammates.

Practice is over, it was long, hard, and exhausting and Y/n is just ready to go home. She's walking off the track when she's stopped by some of the senior girls. She feels like a fish in a shark tank the way they all surround her and a pit starts to form in her stomach.
"Y/n, I don't care how good you are, I don't want you to outshine me on the track." one of the girls says "We're trying to get scholarships so we want the attention on us, not you." Says another girl from behind her "So either you tell coach that you quit the team or we will make it where you can't run anymore." says the first girl.
Y/n doesn't know what to do, she doesn't wanna quit the team because she would disappoint her family but she doesn't wanna find out what the senior girls are gonna do if she doesn't listen to them. So she makes a plan to take off running when the girls get distracted.
Y/n looks behind the girls as if there's someone there "Hey, coach is waving y'all over." Y/n says and the second the girls turn around she takes off running as fast as she can.
She knows these girls are fast but she's 99% sure she's faster. the girls don't see their coach so they turn back around and see that y/n has taken off, they all look at each other then start running after her.
Y/n is running down the road and sees a new coffee shop has just opened so she decided she should hide there and hope the senior girls don't see her.
Y/n runs into the shop and closes the door behind her while breathing heavy. About five seconds later Y/n watches from the shop window as the girls runs past and she lets out a huge sigh of relief. She looks around the shop in awe as she sees walls lined with beautiful art and the smell of coffee in the air, a truly comforting and peaceful environment.
She kept observing and slowly walking along the walls looking at all the art in the shop when she felt someone staring at her.She turns around and is met with curious bright green eyes staring into her confused hazel ones. The woman had long red hair and Y/n noticed that she looked familiar but she couldn't particularly remember where she seen her before.
The woman lifted her hand and did a 'come here' motion with her fingers. Y/n looked around making sure it was meant for her then she slowly walked over to the table where the woman was sitting.
"Hello I'm Wanda." says the woman holding her hand out "I'm Y/n." says Y/n as she shakes Wanda's hand. The second their hands touch they both felt a sense of familiarity but shook it off. "Please sit, sweetheart." Wanda says motioning to the seat across from her.
Y/n sits down blushing slightly from the pet name and smiles politely at Wanda. "Y/n, why were those girls chasing after you?" the older woman asked.
"Well, I'm on the varsity track team for my school which is really good because I'm a freshman, but the girls who were chasing me are seniors and I ran away because they threatened me and said to quit the team or they would make it to where I can't run anymore." Y/n says slightly stuttering and Wanda can see a small mix of sadness and fear in her eyes with tears threatening to fall.
"Aww, honey I'm so sorry those girls are treating you that way." Says Wanda "It's okay, I just don't know what to do." Y/n says sniffling "Well why don't you let me buy you a drink and we can talk for a while" says Wanda.
Y/n just nods her head and shows Wanda a thankful smile to show her appreciation for her kind gesture.
Wanda comes back from the counter with a drink for her and one for name. "I got you a Carmel frappe" Wanda says with a small smile. "Thank you so much Wanda, you really didn't have to." Says y/n smiling back at her "It's no problem sweetheart, really" says Wanda. A small blush spreads across the younger girls face that doesn't go unnoticed by the older woman.
The pair get lost in conversation talking about everything and nothing and they don't notice that an hour has passed till Y/n gets a notification from her younger sister asking when she's gonna be home.
"Who's messaging you?" ask Wanda with a curious expression, she didn't know why but she felt so protective over the younger girl even though they only met a few hours ago.
"It's just my sister asking when I'll be home, I probably have some chores I need to do." Y/n says with a sigh. "Well I need to get going soon anyways because I have some work stuff to do but why don't you let me give you a ride home?" Says Wanda with a caring smile "Only if it's not to much to ask, I really don't want to be a burden" Says y/n "Don't be silly, I would love to take you home and I was the one that offered. 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞." Wanda says.
The words meant more to Y/n than she let on but Wanda could tell from the look in her eyes that they made an impact on her. "Thank you so much Wanda, really I appreciate it a lot." Y/n says with a grateful expression on her face. Wanda just smiles and lets out a little laugh and says "Cmon, let's go to my car."
————————-
After y/n types her address into Wanda's car they start on the drive "Do you wanna listen to some music?" Ask Wanda "Yes, of course I'm fine with anything." Says Y/n. Wanda smiles as she turns up the volume and 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫 by Lana Del Rey starts to blast through the speakers.
Y/n gasp loudly "YOU LIKE LANA DEL REY?" She ask excitedly, a huge smile spreads across Wanda's face "OF COURSE I DO!" She yells back even more excitedly than Y/n, they both start screaming the lyrics together enjoying their time in the car.
15 minutes later they arrive at y/n's house. Y/n turns to Wanda "Thank you so much for everything today, I don't really talk to a lot of people and it felt so nice just getting to talk to you. I really appreciate it." Y/n says with a small blush.
"Aww sweetheart, I really enjoyed it to." Wanda says pulling the younger girl into a hug. "I don't know why but I feel so safe around you even though we just met." Y/n whispers into the hug.
Wanda feels sad thinking how lonely Y/n must be and she hugs her a little tighter. What Y/n doesn't know is that the hug is helping Wanda just as much as it's helping her.
They finally disconnect and Y/n grabs her stuff "Bye Wanda, thank you for everything." Y/n says while getting out of the car, she's about to walk off when Wanda stops her and grabs her phone. "Text me when you get inside, just so I know you're safe." Wanda says while typing her number into Y/n's phone. Wanda gives Y/n her phone back and Y/n walks inside with a smile.
When Y/n gets inside she pulls out her phone and presses Wanda's contact then sends a quick text.
